Problem Statement or Opportunity
The project includes establishment of a new business of customized products like t-shirt, mugs, mobile
covers and others. In addition to setting up of the business, it will also be required to set up a website
through which online business can be conducted.
Project Summary
This project is based on the initiation of a new start-up company in which, the main target market is the
ecommerce market and hence, in addition to setting up the business, a website also needs to be
developed. In this proposed new business, customized products like coffee mugs, t-shirts, mobile phone
covers and other items that are currently extremely popular among the young generation will be sold
following orders through the online website. Hence, there is a significant opportunity to gain a
significant share of the market with high quality products, reasonable pricing and proper marketing
among the target group of customers. Online website further benefits these opportunities as it is much
more effective form of business in current times and it is also easier to promote through popular social
media platforms.
Scope Definition
The scope of this particular project has been determined through a detailed analysis of the proposed
business requirements and features that are requested by the owners. While there are a lot of elements
to the proposed field of the project, some of the elements have been excluded and some are accepted
to suit the needs of the owners within the feasibility limits of time and budget. Based on the
requirements, it can be determined that the scope of the project includes the establishment of a new
start up business along with all the required elements and an online website for ecommerce purposes.
Scope Statement
For defining the scope, the following work breakdown structure along with a WBS dictionary
have been provided below.

Table 1.2, WBS Dictionary
Acceptance Criteria – The main acceptance criteria for the project include spaces for office and
warehouse as well as an ecommerce website through which the business can be conducted
online. The project must be delivered within the specified time and budget limits.
Out-of-Scope Items
Some of the out-of-scope items excluded from the project are as follows.
Development of smartphone app corresponding to the online website
Opening of a retail store for selling products online
Constraints
The main constraints of the project are as follows.
Since this is a start-up business, budget is a significant constraint for the project.
Marketing is a significant constraint as this is a start-up company and the owners are not
experienced in marketing.
Assumptions
For the purpose of planning for the project, several assumptions have been made. These
assumptions are most likely to come true. Some major assumptions that have been made in
this project are discussed as follows.
I. It has been assumed that the project can be completed within the budget and time limit
specified during planning. Since this is a start-up business, both time and cost are major
constraints and hence, estimation is to be done in such a way that it can be safely
assumed that these limits are not crossed.
II. It has been assumed that the ecommerce business will enjoy success within 6 months of
the business launch. In order to achieve the goal of successful business, the company
needs appropriate marketing techniques including full utilization of social media for
reaching potential customers.
