1.0 Introduction to the Project
1.1 Background of Company
Delta Airlines is an USA based airlines company that has planned for a half yearly
company retreat to another country. Delta is one of the largest airlines companies in USA and
serves over all the states of USA as well as more 100 countries around the world (Bravman,
2016).
1.2 Introduction to Project
The company authority has approved a project that will include the development and
execution of the entire trip. According to the initial plan, the retreat location is selected as
Toronto in Canada and the proposed duration for the trip is 5 days and 4 nights (Turner, 2016).
In the initial estimation, the overall head count for the trip is 150 (including the family members
of the employees) and all the arrangements will be done accordingly. This report is based on the
development of a company retreat plan based on which, the company employees will visit
Toronto, Canada for the purpose of fun activities and retreat.
2.0 Project Scope Statement
The project is based on the company retreat to another country and hence, the scope of
the project is defined as follows (Kerzner & Kerzner, 2017).
Scope 1: The Retreat – Execution of the entire retreat event is within the scope of the
project. In this developed plan, the retreat location is decided to be Toronto, Canada and a total
of 150 people will join the trip. As per the initial estimation of budget and other factors, it has

3PROJECT MANAGEMENT
been found that the retreat will be a feasible project for Delta Airlines and it will also provide the
employees of the company with a great deal of refreshment and energy.
Scope 2: Discussion of New Business Strategies – This is another major scope of the
project. While the trip will act as a chance for refreshment for the employees and family
members, it will also open a window of opportunity for employees and some of the business
leaders joining the trip. During a game of golf or a party of barbeques, they will have the chance
to discuss new business strategies and ideas in an unofficial environment.
The scope of the project can be further enhanced using the 6 items checklist as follows.
2.1 Project Objectives
Based on the project scopes, the project objectives can be determined as follows.
 To develop a project charter for the entire project
 To develop an estimated schedule for project
 To estimate the total head count for the trips and buy flight tickets accordingly
 To execute the retreat trip in Toronto Canada
 To visit several places in Toronto
 To play a few sessions of golf at the golf park
 To host a barbeque party at night
 To undertake a number of more refreshing activities especially for the sake of the
employees’ family members
 To return from the trip after 4 nights and 5 days
 To complete the entire project within the budget limit of $360,000.

5PROJECT MANAGEMENT
2.5 Limits and Exclusion
The limits and exclusions of the project are listed as follows.
The entire trip is limited to 150 people only as exceeding this head count will
create a huge problem in management of the trip.
The entire retreat trip is limited to 4 nights 5 days plus additional time for
travelling up and down.
Funds for local shopping at the location by the employee family members have
been excluded officially from the overall project budget.
2.6 Reviews with Customers
After the entire project charter is developed, a copy of it will be provided to each of the
employees joining the trip so that they can review the plan and provide feedbacks.
3.0 Project Priorities
The project priority matrix is shown in the following diagram (Schwalbe, 2015).

This matrix shows four main aspects of the project that have been arranged based on their
requirements and impact on the organization (Schwalbe, 2015). For instance, fun and
refreshment is the most desired requirement and also will have most impact on the performance
of the employees in the future. Similarly, the other aspects have been arranged as per impact and
requirement in project.
The priority matrix for the project can also be defined as follows.

Time Scope Cost Remarks
Constrain The project must be of the best quality i.e. in spite of
limited time and budget, the project must be
successful with the best possible outcome.
Enhance The project should be completed within a specific
period of time
Accept In order to complete the project in time, a small
increase in budget is acceptable
Priority 1: Scope is a constrain because it cannot be changed or modified at any point of
project.
Priority 2: Time can be increased if needed but is not advisable to do so in order to avoid
extra expenses.
Priority 3: For the purpose of the project, the minor cost increases can be accepted.
4.0 Work Breakdown Structure
A work breakdown structure is a breakdown of work packages within various phases of
the project (Binder, 2016). The work breakdown structure of the project is shown as follows.
Document Page

5.0 Cost Estimation
There are two types of cost estimation methods: bottom up and top down (Fleming &
Koppelman, 2016). The chosen method for this project is bottom up since it is very convenience
to execute this technique using the project schedule. Using the bottom up method, the budget of
the project is estimated as follows.
