PROJECT SELECTION METHODS BASED ON UBER CASE STUDY 1. Introduction Uber is regarded as the largest online taxi provider in the world, which offer their various facilities by enhancing their mobile application day by day. As per an estimation, it has been found that more than 3 million of Uber drivers log in to the application and thus spend 8.5 million hours within the application. Uber provides a vast range of services for the purpose of meeting the expectations of their customers (Cramer & Krueger, 2016). The largest ride hailing company mostly contracts different taxi service providers on a contractual basis. These workers are then engaged into a labour force with the help of an efficient software. This report further puts emphasis over a certain project selection method and thus implementing a new form of user interface within their business structure. This would mostly be helpful for supporting customers and their partnered drivers to enhance the business structure of the organisation. 2. Discussion 2.1 Project Selection Methods Despite a high level of competition, the company is always planning to introduce new kind of services before the customers in order to meet their expectations and thus constantly move forward. Technology has always been the major support and is extensively used by the application in order to improve their services (Grønbæk et al., 2017). The new form of business strategy would be extremely important in the competitive marketplace. The project is thus based on understanding about the needs of the company and thus decide on the best possible measure that needs to be taken in order to enhance the scenario of the business. The application of Uber is considered to be the workplace for the drivers and thus each
PROJECT SELECTION METHODS BASED ON UBER CASE STUDY of the beneficial methods that would be undertaken within the project would be helpful for enhancing the application for the betterment of the drivers. This project is thus based on building of an entirely new form of interface that would suit the needs of drivers (Hermann, Pentek & Otto 2016). The entire project is commercially based. The company has understood the needs for the development of an entirely new project and thus have decided to build an entirely new application with the help of a best form of project selection method. 2.2 Comparison between the Various Approaches of Project Management Based on the given project designed for Uber, the Benefit Measurement Method (BMM) could be applicable for the project. The primary models and methods that are used within this method are – Internal Rate of Return (IRR), Payback Period and Net Present Value (NPV). In this form of economic model based on IRR, the company should be able to calculate the rate of interest at which the total inflow of cash would occur within the project development phase. The total cash inflow that would be made within the project should be equal to the outflow of cash from the project (Bora, 2015). From the discussed model, it could be further outlined that higher the value of IRR, there would be more flow of profits incurred after the design of the project. In the discussion over the Payback Period based economic model, it could be discussed that the time period would be required to be calculated for based on the made investment made during the designing of the project. The concerned project would require a certain time period during which the investments made would help in gaining some benefits for the company (Deng et al., 2014). This would mean that after a certain time period, the project would help in returning profits for the organisation.

PROJECT SELECTION METHODS BASED ON UBER CASE STUDY The last economic model that would be considered for the project is the Net Present Value (NPV). Based on considering this model, the NPV for a certain project would be calculated by deducting the cost that would be incurred for a project. The NPV that would be calculated within a project would be calculated over multiple time periods (Thamhain, 2014). This would entirely be based on the present costs or investments that would be made for the project. If the calculated NPV is positive, it would indicate that the selected project is positive. 2.3 Initial Process Group With the development of the application project, it would be considered that the existing application would be completely revamped and a new setup would be made. A knowledge over the PMBOK guide would be able to help the project manager and the entire team to design the application with a better form of approach (A guide to the project management body of knowledge, 2017). The various techniques and strategies that are undertaken by the company by following the PMBOK guide would be helpful for guiding the entire project. The business of Uber should consider the Payback Period for calculating the amount of gain that would be incurred for the project. With the implementation of this model within the business structure, the company would be gain an idea about the number of time periods that would be required for a project (Dutra et al., 2014). This would help in gaining an idea about the amount of benefits incurred over making investments within a project. After the design of the new interface for the driver application, it would be necessary for the company to discuss about the benefits that would be incurred after the project (Ruparathna, Hewage & Sadiq, 2017). Hence, with the implementation of the Payback Period model for the project, the company would beabletocalculatetheamountofrevenuegeneratedaftertheprojecthasmadesome contribution of profits.
PROJECT SELECTION METHODS BASED ON UBER CASE STUDY The stakeholderteam who would be involved within the project would comprise of the best and world class group of technicians and decision makers. This would include the lead projectdesigners, technicaldevelopmentteam, testingandqualityanalystteamandthe automobile engineering team (Blomberg et al., 2017). The project manager would however spearhead the entire progress and development of the project. A proper guidance would need to be sought in order to understand the core idea of the project and thus take proper steps in order to plan the project. The proper documents that would be needed for the project include a technical project plan, a financial plan that would sort the entire financial aspects that would be required during the project, an approval plan that would be highly needed for ensuring that each of the members are on board and willing to start with the development of the project (Stanton et al., 2017). Before the initiation over the works on the project, the legal team at Uber should undertake several legal steps in order to ensure that there would be no legal action after the development of the interface of the application has been done (Nguyen, Reiter & Rigo, 2014). A proper legal document would also ensure that there would not arise any situations of problem after the commercial launch of the application in the overseas market. The knowledge and consideration of the PMBOK guidelines would help the entire project team to implement the technical knowledge over the domain. The use of exclusive project management techniques would be able to guide the project management team for implementing the necessary changes during development of the project. The development team would be highly involved in planning, designing a wireframe of the entire interface that would be user- friendly. The PMBOK standards would be able to define several new ways and useful strategies that would be able to facilitate the drivers in completing their rides with the esteemed customers within the company. Each of the strategies defined during the development of the interface
PROJECT SELECTION METHODS BASED ON UBER CASE STUDY should have a future planning to improve the experience of the drivers and also enhance the business efficiency. 3. Conclusion Based on discussing about the various aspects of the report, it could be concluded that with the development of the project based on the new interface, it would be extremely beneficial for the company to stay ahead in the highly competitive market. The new venture of the company is based on planning of a new interface for the drivers and thus enhance their experience during the ride. This report thus puts focuses over the project selection methods that could be used within the development of the discussed project. The project management method that has been applied during the development of the project is based on Payback Period method. The implementation of this method would mostly benefit Uber as they would be able to calculate the amount of benefits incurred after the implementation of the new project. The report also discusses about the ways in which the project management body involved with the design aspects of the project would be able to cover the entire aspects of the project. The team of project management involved with the design of the project would cover the financial, technical and legal aspects that are involved within the project.Selection of the payback period method would be helpful for the company to deliver the best kind of quality output to the company and also ensure the net profits that would be incurred for the project in the future.
