1SPEEDING
Driving can provide the drivers with immense power as a particular person glides swiftly
seeming unstoppable and impenetrable. However power is always linked to the responsibility.
There are several drivers which continue to speed beyond the proper or particular limit. Speeding
is extremely dangerous as the drivers might have poor reaction and interpretation abilities and
the increased accident risks and speeding might cause injuries and even death.
The issue of driving too fast due to the factors of the road is a crucial factor in the crash
and other fatalities. It causes a rise in the stopping distance which is needed to avoid any sort of
collision even as it decreases the amount of time a driver requires to prevent collision. It also
increases the chances of the crash resulting in an injury. People often think of highways as a
major factor for the fatalities of speeding, might be because the speeds are the highest on
highways.
Speeding is usually done by the teenagers and also drunk people that implies higher
amount of accident risks. Several people who speed need to be driving more consciously and
those who cannot drive should be warned against speeding. In case of speeding the victims have
to face severe consequences. The victims of speeding accidents who usually survive have a much
lower quality of life and in severe cases many individuals are not able to return to their normal
lives. There even might be genuine cases where the driver who has been speeding may not be
able to provide compensation for their victim’s economic and non-economic damages like
medical costs and also physical pain and suffering. The speeders are responsible for the loss of
people’s lives as well as their suffering which cannot be compensated. Often this might lead to
the loss of lives of an individual’s family members which is a cause of immense sorrow. It can
safely be said that the incidences of speeding can ruin a person’s life forever as well as his or her
family (Lheureux).

There is no single elucidation to the problem related to that of too much speed. Therefore
certain measures need to be adopted for increasing the effectiveness of each of the individual
measures. The combination which is most suitable is of the measures which are bound to differ
along with the circumstances. There should be a proper balance between the road design, the
speed limit and also the public perception of the appropriate speed (Habtemichael, Filmon and
Luis de Picado Santos).
At the very inception lie the limits of speed. These limits must define a safe speed,
reflecting the road functionalities, composition of traffic and also the characteristics of road
design. The speed limits also need to be credible and should be a reflection of the road
environment. There should be a proper management of the drivers’ awareness towards the local
speed limit at all times.
Road engineering is a probable option which helps to reduce speed such as humps and
narrowings help in reducing the speed at those locations where the low speed is essential. If
applied suitably the measures assist the drivers understand the traffic situation and speed to use
(Elvik).
Despite all these adopted measures, there will always be a certain section of the people
who will always speed. For this section of the people the law enforcement is a necessary
instrument. Education should assist the management of speed needs and relevant information in
order to make the users aware of the speed and speeding problem and the reasons for
implementation of the counter measures (Brilon et al.).
New technologies enable the in-vehicle systems which support drivers to comply with
certain limits of speed. These provides information regarding the speed limit, warning thev

driver about crossing the limit or possibility of making excess speed impossible. These systems
can be introduced progressively. The innovative technologies help the communication between
the road and vehicle allowance. These are the systems which are still under development
(Treiber and Kesting).
It can be said that to speed beyond whatever is legal and necessary or the usual speed
limit, the consequences are fatal to the driver and the possible victims. Usually most people who
should not even be driving or do not know how to drive carefully usually speed up and several
accidents occur. At the same time the accidents might cause several problems and these
outcomes need to be considered and thought about before such rash driving.
