This article discusses protective and risk factors that can help individuals deal more effectively with stressful events and reduce risks in families and communities. It covers five protective factors, including concrete support, social connections, parental resilience, knowledge of parenting and child development, and social and emotional competence of children. It also discusses five risk factors, including homelessness, children of parents in conflict with the law, negative attitudes, low self-esteem, and poverty. Additionally, the article explains the concept of trauma-informed care and the 4 R's of trauma-informed care.
