Psychology for Health and Social Psychological theories in person experiencing increased level of stressNational conference is organized for 3 days which is sponsored by World healthorganization (WHO). In this national conference, various mental disorders arediscussed along with identifying their diagnosis approaches and the evaluatingappropriate treatment for the sufferings. The various mental illness such asschizophrenia, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), depression, anxiety disordersand eating disorders etc. These all can be understood by implementing differenttype of psychological theories in practice of health and social care settings. Thedifferent stages followed for care are diagnosis, treatment, intervention andmedication in order recover from the disease and leave and healthy life. This helpsin better development of new skills and competencies of human body whiledelivering through different stages of life span. Some of the mental health disorderare discussed below through understanding these diseases by applying the variouspsychological theories in practices which are represented as follows:Depression- The state of mind when the individual feels sad in known asdepression. This will lead to abnormal and non-functioning of the body andindividual in different situation appropriately. This is most commonly diseasedeveloped in the nature of a person. The cause for the depression can bepsychological, environmental or genetics as well. The symptoms shown byindividual suffering from depression are anxious, restlessness, appetite loss, painsand hopelessness etc.Schizophrenia- This is a chronic disease which affects the brain cells of theindividual. In this person or the sufferer feels that he in controlled by anotherperson and someone is controlling his mind and actions. This is commonly shownby the people who abuse drugs on regular basis. Another cause can be genetic orbecause of influencing factors in external environment.Eating disorder- In this disorder the person is not following proper dietand there are disturbances in regular meals of suffering people. The body becomeunstructured and shape and weight of the human body is disturbed in this eatingdisorder.Health and social care setting plays a significant role in developing healthy life ofindividual. This helps in promoting the better health of sufferer bringing significantchanges in the behaviour and actions of person which are essential for individual todevelop confidently in different stages across life span. The psychological theoriesare having significant role in enhancing the health by developing behaviouralchanges in actions of individual. The theories help in developing positive thinkingapproach to react confidently with different stressful conditions in environment.Environmental, behavioural and personal characteristics of an individual is thedetermining aspect of the behaviour and nature of individual executives towardsparticular situation. The various psychological theories like humanistic theory,behavioural, cognitive, learning theory, planned behaviour theory etc. can behelpful in brining different behavioural changes in action of the individual in orderto act responsibly towards the issues of health and fitness.The stress is the state of mind due to which the blood pressure of an individualdecreases and person is not able to perform task appropriately. The stress can bedeveloped because of physical, mental or emotional response to specific condition.This is a reaction of human body towards the changing environment and situations.The psychological stress can be consequences of the stress, illness, bereavementand chronic diseases. The various psychological theories like cognitive theory canbe applied in the actions and behavior of individual who is experiencing highamount of stress in developmental stages of life span. The cognitive approach willhelp in improving the positive thinking and contribute in enhancing theperformance level of person by acting confidently and responsive towards stressfulconditions. Individual can develop positive thinking approach by implementing thepsychological theories like psychosocial theory inn action to deal with stressfulsituation in workplace efficiently.Appointed as social worker for local authority of Camden the individual studies tocases suffering from various problem. Pat is 8 years old child who involving inmixed family and not having good relationship with father. The individual relationis not good in school and with student and facing huge problems in solvingnumeracy problems due to increased stress level. So, the environment at home andrelation with his father leads to stressful condition and he is not able to actresponsibly in sociological environment. Pat should implement variouspsychological theories in order to reduce stress level.The behavioral disturbances are frequent changes in actions and nature ofindividual while dealing with some situation. This behavioral disturbance can bebecause of past experience of individual or because of mental illness or anotherinfluencing social or physical factors. As appointed as social worker for localauthority of Camden Jennifer is 65 years old service user of medical institutionwho is recently discharged from hospital for his replacement. She evidenced thatnurse was unfriendly as observed in post treatment survey. When Jennifer callsnurse staff for beverages and cashew nuts then the response of the nurse was notgood which leads to higher dissatisfaction of user. Jennifer is not having intentionto go back to hospital even her doctor’s advices for second hip replacement. Thisbehavior is shown because of disturbances in her action because of bad experiencewith the hospital staff. So the psychological theories can be applied in order to dealwith disturbances effectively. The psychological theories help in identifying thevarious type of behavioral disturbances in the nature of person like deficitdisorders, autistic spectrum disorders and behaviors associated with addiction. Theaddictive behavior is shown by person when individual is addicted towards the useof some objectives and develops a habit of consuming the things on daily basis.This can be caused because of different stressful condition and various situationexperiencing in environment.Psychological theories are having great importance in relation with the health andsocial care setting. These theories help in defining the various aspects of individualhealth and behavior. For example: various theories help in evaluating the behaviorand actions executed by individuals in different stages of life span. On the otherhand, psychological theories also help in identifying the behavioral disturbancesand diagnosing the mental health disorders. So, the psychological theory is havinggreat relevance in relation with the health and social care settings. These theoriesalso help in identifying and evaluating the relation of individual with familymember and response of person towards society. Psychological theory helps indefining the state of mind which can be used in providing better health care to theindividual by assessing psychic health of person by applying various psychologicaltheories in practice. So, these theories are having great importance in relation withthe health and social care settings.
