Scenario 1:
In the first scenario the child is of 5 years old. The stage of cognitive development in the
stage is the preoperational stage. At this stage of the cognitive development, they begins to think
characteristically. The child at this stage are egocentric and think in a very concrete manner.
Such children do not want to see things from the other’s perspective (Boyd and Bee, 2015).
Child at this stage are more egocentric and hence if I will punish my daughter, it might
have negative impact on her brain. Hence, in such condition, I will communicate with her and
will try to make her understand that taking away other child’s toy is wrong and she should not do
that. I will tell her that if she wants to play with that toy she could have been asked the other
children but taking someone’s thing without their permission is bad.
Scenario 2:
According to Piaget theory of the cognitive development, the stage of cognitive
development for the children is the formal operational stage (Blake, 2015). At this stage of the
cognitive development, the child begins to think conceptually. Different types of the abstract
thought emerges at this stage. They started using deductive logic. It is one of the most complex
stage of the cognitive development (Siegler, 2016).
Punishing the children of this stage lead to more negative result. Hence, in order to avoid
such negative impact, effective communication can be used. I will talk to them as a friend and
will make them understand that it is extremely bad to take money from someone without their
permission and if they need something they can ask me without acknowledging them that I know
about the money. Along with that, I will also talk about the harmful effect of vapes and
cigarettes.
