This essay analyses the psychosocial factors that helps in determining the life of an individual. It examines the relationship between individual and that of the wider society. It analyses the emotional turmoil that Kylie is going through on account of the circumstances prevailing in her life.

Introduction
Psychosocial approach perceives individuals from the aspect of combined influence
that the psychological factors along with that of the social environment have on the mental
wellness of an individual. This approach can prove to be helpful in helping the professionals
within that of health care settings. There is a relationship between that of mental or emotional
well-being and that of the environment. The problems that take place in the psychosocial
functioning can be called “psychosocial dysfunction”. Mental illness can be can be
understood by the help of assessment of the environment. Psychosocial is the combination of
psychological along with that of social behaviour. It helps in examining the relationship
between the fears of a person and the manner he responds to it within that of the social
setting. This essay analyses the psychosocial factors that helps in determining the life of an
individual. This essay examines the relationship between individual and that of the wider
society. This essay analyses the emotional turmoil that Kylie is going through on account of
the circumstances prevailing in her life.
Discussion
The four components pertaining to psychosocial health are that of mental, social,
emotional and that of spiritual health. The balance that these individual components have
help an individual in leading a life that is healthier. The internal factor that has a major
influence on the psychosocial health is that of self-esteem and sense of pride. People who
have a high amount of self-esteem take pride in their accomplishments. The other internal
factors that can influence the psychosocial health is that of personality along with that of
hormones (Barry and Yuill 2011). Personality is an assimilation of environment along with
culture. The fluctuating hormones can have an impact on that of the mental well-being of the
individuals.

There are different kinds of external factors that has a bearing on the psychosocial
health of an individual. Respect from the family along with friends can help an individual in
having a sound psychosocial health. The negative actions along with that of the stress that it
brings can have effect on the psychosocial health pertaining to an individual (Burtis and
Turman 2005).
Kylie has been excluded from that of the school and she is being taken care of by that
of the local authority. The fact that her father left her when she was around 7 years old had a
grave impact on her. Kylie’s mother was finding it increasingly difficult to handle Kylie and
the two other younger siblings. The boyfriend of Kylie called Darren is undergoing a
community sentence for an incident of assault. Kylie along with Darren have recently
discovered that they would be expecting a baby soon. The incidents taking place in Kylie’s
life have shaken her badly. When a child is very young, she needs the emotional support from
both her parents. The abandoning of Kylie by her father caused her great amount of grief and
she was deprived of the affection of her father at a very tender age. The mental impressions
that are formed on an individual in the early years have repurcussions at a later stage of life
(Marmot, Allen and Goldblatt 2010). The leaving of the father left her mother in a state of
acute distress. Kylie’s mother found it hard to financially and emotionally support the family.
She was suffering from anxiety on account of the fact that she was finding it hard to manage
the entire family. The pain that Kylie’s mother was going through in her life made it
impossible for her to emotionally support her children. She was not in a condition to help the
children deal with the mental anguish of their life.
Darren has committed some kind of crime that is causing him to face a community
sentence. Darren has strayed and gone in the wrong path that has led him to face such a
sentence. Kylie was looking for some kind of emotional support in Darren in the absence of
her father and negligence from her mother. The emotional void that was present in the life of

Kylie was to some extent filled with the help of her boyfriend Darren. She got emotionally
attached to Darren as she was in a vulnerable stage of her life and she needed someone to
help her come out of this stage of crisis. He has committed some offence that has forced the
court to put some kind of limitation on the offender. The court provides them with some kind
of duties that they have to perform and it is primarily done so that an individual can learn
from the mistakes and reform themselves (Taylor and Bury 2007). To further complicate the
situation, it was found that Kylie was going to have a baby. Kylie is a minor girl and she
expecting a baby would further add hurdles in the family of Kylie. The addition of another
family member would be a cause of financial burden for the entire family. Apart from this
fact, Darren is currently in the community sentence and she would not be able to take
responsibility of Kylie’s offspring. Love and affection is of great significance in the life of an
individual and it can help one in leading a balanced life. Kylie was deprived from these vital
aspects and this caused one incident after another in the life of Kylie (Asylumaid.org.uk
2018)
The psychosocial issue that was raised on account of the incidents in Kylie’s life is
that of sadness and depression. Some children experience sadness beyond that of the normal
level when the physiologic symptoms starts interfering with that of social interactions. The
period pertaining to sadness can be brief or it can even be prolonged. Reassurance along with
monitoring can help an individual in coming out of the troubled phase (Nadeau and Hasan
2016). The mental agony that Kylie was going through could be pacified to a certain extent
with the help of right amount of familial support. Kylie was experiencing sadness because of
the fact that her father left her. This loneliness could not be filled by her mother as she was
herself preoccupied in providing for the three children. Being deprived of the affection in her
life, she continued to look for a person who could provide her with emotional solace

(Peacock-Chambers, Ivy and Bair-Merritt 2017). She thought that Darren could be this
person who could take her out of her state of acute misery.
Kylie was depressed on account of the circumstances in her life. The first years in the
life of an individual can prove to be formative for that of the human brain. Architecture
pertaining to brain is built in the initial years of life when the brain develops at a rapid pace.
Early development in relation to childhood can help in supporting the emotional along with
social capabilities during the whole course of their life (Shute and Slee 2015). The
environment in which a child finds himself/ herself can have repurcussions on the entire life.
Harmful experiences encountered by an individual can alter the genes within that of the brain
cells. These changes can have temporary effect or permanent effect on the life of an
individual. It has been found that children who are fatherless have difficulties pertaining to
that of social adjustment and have problems in terms of friendship. They also exhibit
behaviour problems and often develop an intimidating persona so that they can disguise the
unhappiness present in their life (Singh et al. 2016).
These can lead to a truant attitude on the part of the children and have an impact on
their academic performance. It has been found that the children who are fatherless lack the
thinking skills and they have more chances of being excluded from the school. Kylie has been
excluded from the school on account of showing anti-social behaviour and exhibiting
incidents that show that she was emotionally disturbed. Her family being unable to take care
of her put her in the charge of the local authority. The local authorities adopt a person-centred
approach and it helps in providing one with support. These can help an individual in getting
access to that of the community resources along with assets that can help in further
deteriorating the situation (Sampson 2017). The local authorities should maintain information
and the service should be able to safeguard the rights of the people. Kylie has been kept in
charge of the local authority because there is no one in the family who would be able to take

care of her. She is in a very vulnerable stage and lack of attention given to her at this stage
can force her to take some kind of drastic steps (Bornstein and Bradley 2014).
Risk factor is an element that increases the probability of an individual of getting
drawn into some kind of a problem. It can increase the vulnerability of a person and lead to
deterioration in his health. The interaction of the children pertaining to the social environment
can help I determining the formation of relationships in his life. Development occurs with the
help of reciprocal interaction between the children and that of the environment. The
ecological theory pertaining to development of Bronfenbrenner helps in describing the
different systems that have a bearing on the lives of the children (Crain 2015). Children get
various kinds of opportunities in relation to their development that is provided by the
personal attributes along with that of the social environment. Social along with the
psychological factors are associated with the mental health of children and it can have an
influence on the intrinsic characteristics of an individual. Negative effects in relation to
development can be produced due to the combination of psychological along with
environmental risk factors (Frye and Moore 2014).
The circumstances occurring in the life of Kylie have emotionally distanced her from
her mother. Her mother was going through a difficult time as she had to think of rearing the
three children. Lack of parental affection and support forced her to have Darren as a
boyfriend who had criminal inclinations. It was acute mental distress that led her to have a
relationship with such a person who had a criminal bent of mind. She would not have done
such a thing if she had a fulfilling life. She could not understand the grave implications of her
actions and Kylie got pregnant with the child of Darren. Kylie was unable to tread on the
correct path as she was depressed. She felt extremely sad about the happenings of her life and
she was in such a state of mind that she could not understand in what problematic situation
she was getting drawn at. On the event of Kylie having a normal childhood, she would never

have taken the steps that she took in her life. Children spend a large portion of time with that
of the friends and it is of fundamental importance that a person can differentiate between that
of good and bad company (Slee and Shute 2014). Good friendship can have valuable impact
on the success of a person. It can be stated that if a person has bad company then it can ruin
his happiness. Parents do not spend much amount of time with that of their children. Their
friends act as whole day companions and if a child maintains the right kind of friendship it
can help him stay in the right track. The positive attributes of the friend will be instilled in the
child that will help him learn a lot of useful and valuable things (Bever 2017). Similarly if a
person has friends who have gone wayward then they are sure to go in the wrong direction
and face trouble.
Behaviourism was a dominant force in the arena of psychology. The behavioural
perspective states that human behaviour can easily be explained in terms of the
environmental influence. The environmental interaction can have influence on the behaviour
of children and it pertains to that of observable behaviour. The socio-ecology theory
highlights that children can develop with the help of ecosystem that can support their ability
of bonding (Tighe and Leaton 2016). It has been found that if the social ecology zones are not
in the proper order then children start exhibiting stress. The theory highlights that bonding of
the children occurs first with that of the parents and the family of a child acts as the primary
care giver. Father of Kylie left when Kylie was around 7 years old and hence she could not
get the proper support from her parents. The love and affection of parents are very crucial at
this stage and Kylie being deprived got dragged in the wrong path. Her mother neglected her
concerns and Kylie had to face extreme amount of emotional stress on account of the
circumstances in her life.

Conclusion:
Personality is formed on account of the mingling of environment and culture. One can
get sound psychosocial health if one gets proper respect from family and friends. Stress can
have effect on that of psychosocial health of a person. Kylie’s mother could not emotionally
support the children as she felt burdened with her children. Kylie was experiencing sadness
and depression as she felt aloof within the social set up. Mental turmoil being perpetrated on
Kylie could be satisfied with the help of support from the family. Kylie was feeling sad she
had been deserted by her father. Kylie’s mother could not fill the void in her life as she was
busy supporting the three children. Reciprocal interaction between children and the
environment can assist in the process of growth of the child. The opportunities provided for
development of children are on account of individual attributes and social environment. The
dearth of affection from the side of her family compelled her to have a person like Darren as
her friend who was social miscreant. A more fulfilling life could have helped Kylie in staying
away from Darren. She went on the wrong track and conceived a child with Darren. Socio-
ecological theory states how one can develop with the help of right kind of bonding and
support socially. Children start showing signs of stress if they do not get proper support from
the near and dear ones. Kylie felt deep sorrow and loneliness in her life on account of the
troubled circumstances in her life.
