FOOD INSECURITY AND CLIMATE CHANGE

Background and context
Food security is the factor that refers to the availability of proper nutrition for every
individual in adequate amount and in an affordable cost. The food security in present
condition found to be in a great risk as the climate change of the world affect the factor of the
food availability. It has been seen that the Australia is one of the leading food suppliers to
other countries for a long period of time however, in the present condition of the certain
climate changes and the droughts affect the factor of the crop production. Hence, the food
supply to the global approximately 9 billion people is in jeopardy [1]. On the other hand the
factor of the socio-economic structure and the employment leads to the impaired loss of water
and food [2]. This present condition of food insecurity should be address and for this the need
of the health promotion activities should be done. As of the evidences found about the
context of the food security and the climate change the Australian people are at most risk
because they could not be able to produce the adequate food crop to supply to the world
populations and also the condition shows that the Australian 60 percent crop is exported to
other countries and there crop production is unsubsidized [3]. Hence, it can be seen that the
food insecurity affect the mostly the Australian population especially the Indigenous people
and the low income country people are at stake of the risk of food insecurity.

Food insecurity is also affected by several factors such as the poor water and land
management, insufficient food consumption globally, unhealthy food preferences by people
and lack in healthy food choice by people of many countries or from different cultural
backgrounds. All these factors are impacted primarily by some factors that are the
unanticipated climatic changes, unavailability of water, and lack of development in
agricultural sectors of different underdeveloped and low income countries [4]. On the other
hand the high rise of food price and improper international trades affect the global food
consumption rate and the poor access to nutritious food and the lack of knowledge about the
food safety also affect the nutritious food habits. However, the food choice is hampered as
the nutritious values of the consumed foods are not known to all along with the improper
distribution of food to everyone on the basis of the socio-economic structure.
