1. What design characteristics bolster the validity of survey instruments? Explain
Every survey needs to meet some characteristics regardless of the type of the tools
the surveyor is using according to Froehlich (September 22, 2015). The first requirement
for every survey is the research design of the particular study. Research design aims at
the group of individuals the survey targets. It essential for the surveyor to group the
targeted people easily and have a set timeline to deal with each group. The second design
characteristics are the design of the question the survey is going to work. The surveyor
should design the problem carefully to avoid getting a poor outcome. Another critical
issue is setting the objective of the study. The should come up with realistic goals that the
survey instruments are going to achieve. The purpose will determine how the surveyor
would collect the data for the survey.
2. Why are response rates significant, and what are some methods that can be employed
to try to increase them?
The response rate is an essential factor in a survey. The first importance of
response rate is that it shows the level of quality of a particular study. Many researchers
argue that the higher the response rate, the more accurate the research is in any context.
Therefore, every surveyor should insist on a response rate of his or her survey in
reference to Joseph Wholey, Harry Hatry, and Kathryn (2015). The second importance is
that the response rate outlines the level of bias of that particular survey.
In most cases, when the study has a low response rate, it shows sampling bias. There
exist various methods of improving response rates, the main one is designing the central
message of the survey appealingly. Appreciating people makes them feel that the study
