Health Promotion Title: Lose Weight and Live More
Introduction
This health promotion project plan will address the issue of obesity among the youth
population of Australia and thereby causing the various adverse health related outcomes
among the youth population of Australia. According to the report of Australian Government,
it is reported that, the obesity is one of the crucial public issue of Australian society and it is
reported that, in recent time, it is affecting most of the youths of Australia (Australian
Government, 2017). However, it can be stated that, the issue of obesity among the youths,
not only affects the youths of Australia, but it is also affecting the youths of various countries
of this world. As youths are future of any nations of this world, so it is very crucial to protect
the health of the youths from this chronic problem of the society. From the national report of
the Australian government (2017), it is reported that, the in the year of 2014-15, almost one
quarter of the youths are obese in the country. Overall 27% of the youths of Australia, are
overweight or obese. Among the overall obesity and overweight cases among the youths of
the country, 20 per cent of youths are overweight, and 7 per cent of the youths are obese
(Australian Government, 2017). In this essay, the health promotion plan for the youth of
Australia in order to reduce the cases of obesity among them will be discussed in a brief
manner.
Health Promotion and Target Group outline
The main target group of this health promotion program will be the youths of the Australia
under the age group of 15 to 24 years. As per the report of Australian Bureau of Statistics, it
is reported that, almost 38.9 per cent of the youths under the age group of 18-24 years have
the problem of overweight or obesity in the country in the year of 2014-15. In the year of
2017-18, there was a large increase in the percentage of the obesity among the youths

while comparing with the data of 2014-15 and it is reported that, the percentage was almost
46.0 per cent in the aforesaid timeline (Australian Government, 2017). Along with this, it is
also reported that the male population of the country are mostly affected by this problem of
obesity or overweight in Australia. From the report, it is observed that, almost 74.5 per cent
of male youths under the age group of 18-24 years were diagnosed with the problem of
obesity or overweight(Abs.gov, 2019). On the other hand, only 59.7 per cent of the female
under this age group (18-24 years) were diagnosed with the problem of obesity or
overweight in the country (Abs.gov, 2019). In the chosen age group, it is reported that
almost 24.9 per cent of the adolescent youth aged 15 or above have the problems of obesity
or overweight in Australia in the year of 2017-18 (Abs.gov, 2019). Therefore, this health
promotional plan will try to address the problem of obesity and overweight among the male
youth adults under the age group of 15- 24 years. In most of the cases, it is reported that,
the main reason of serious problem of obesity and overweight is associated with the poor
knowledge about the disease and the lack of proper practices regarding the food practices.
Therefore, it can be assumed that, a health promotional plan related to the educational
program on the risk factors of the obesity may improve the condition of the overweight and
obesity issues among the youths of the Australia.
Health Promotion Aims
The aim of this Health Promotion is to prevent young adults from getting overweight and
reduce the problems of obesity. Primary Health prevention plan can be defined as a health
prevention plan in which the plan aims to prevent an individual from getting a disease,
disorder or condition (Pronk, 2014). Hence, this promotional plan falls under the ‘Primary
Prevention Plan’.

As per the health promotional program, the primary goal of this program is to reduce the
prevalence of obesity among the youths by using the educational program related to the risk
factors of the obesity among the Australian youths. The specific goals of this health
promotional plan is to reduce the cases of obesity and overweight among the youths
under the mentioned age group by using the health awareness program related to the risk
factors of the obesity. In this section, awareness program related to the risk factors of the
obesity and overweight will be initiated. The measurable of this program will be measured by
using survey method from the youths having the problems of obesity and overweight. While
discussing achievable amount of the selected problem, it can be stated that, almost 5 per
cent to 7 per cent of the overall obesity and overweight issues will be reduced among the
youths of the country. The use of the health promotional plan by using the awareness
program related to the risk factors of the obesity will be very relevant as in most of the
cases, it is reported that behavioural interventions are very crucial for the improvement of
the health condition of people with obesity and overweight. Moreover, there are many
instances in which the use of the health promotional program related to the risk factors the
obesity has proven to be very helpful for the improvement of the quality of life among the

youths of society. Therefore it can be said that, such awareness program related to the
improvement of the behaviour of the people may be very effective in reducing the issue of
obesity and overweight among the youth population of the Australia under the age group of
15-24 years. The health promotion program will last for 6 months. Within this time frame,
there will be awareness program in various schools and colleges regarding the risk factors
of the obesity and overweight in order to reduce the case of obesity and overweight among
the youths. After the 6 months, the assessment of the obesity and overweight cases among
the youths will be assessed in order to examine the effectiveness of the health promotion
plan among the youths under the age group of 15-24 years.
Health Promotion prevention management perspective - primary
The primary prevention involves engaging individuals before being diagnosed with a disease
in good behaviours. The health promotion covers the same thing, but does not stop with
disease diagnosis. In most cases, therapy of the disease begins with a diagnosis and
follows a therapeutic plan. Prevention normally follows an opposite order— it appears to
begin at demographic level and to inverse its involvement (Rubio-Valera et al., 2014). The
concept is a move toward a healthier stage for the entire population risk allocation. Primary
prevention and promotion of health may have a significant effect on the health of all
individuals, their families, the business and the general community, if applied to a targeted
environment. However, to make this possible, it is essential to make the effect of health
prevention and promotion visible, be persistent as well as financially appealing, and "eat" so
easily that no deliberate choice is necessary (Daniels & Hassink, 2015).
Stakeholders and community consultation
Apart from the youths under the selected age groups, there are multiple stakeholders who
should be involved in this health promotional program in order to gain success in this health
promotional plan for the youths. For organizing the health promotional program in the

schools and colleges, the administrators of the schools and colleges must be included as it
is very crucial to take permission for the program in a particular organization. Along with
this, the family members of the youths must be included in this process and so it can be said
that, the family members of the youths are another stake holders of this process. According
to the study of Ward (2016), it is reported that, the involvement of the family members in the
health promotional program for reducing the issue of obesity among the youths are very
effective. Apart from that, the study of Fisher et al.(2015), reported that the emotional
support from the family members of the youths having the problem of obesity and
overweight will help to reduce the problem of obesity and overweight among the youth
population in a community. The community awareness is another important aspect of
reducing the problem of obesity and overweight among the youths in Australia. So, it can be
said that, the community members around the youths can also be considered as an
important stakeholders of this health promotional plan. Along with this, the friend circles of
the youths having the problems of obesity and overweight should be engaged in this health
promotional plan as they can motivate the youths having obesity and overweight and it may
possible that it will help the youths to know about the risk factors of the obesity and
overweight by their own interest. Thereby, it may possible that, by this initiative, the
individuals themselves are engaged in various physical activities in order to reduce the
obesity and overweight (McSpadden et al., 2016).

templates will be distributed among the youths who are suffering from the obesity and
overweight. Not only this, but those things will also distribute among the other students as
well so that they can also know about the risk factors of the obesity and overweight. Along
with this, a good sports person will be announced as the brand ambassadors of this health
promotional program. It is reported that, the youths of the country are highly influenced by
the sports persons of a specific country. Therefore, it can be said that, any kind of messages
from an iconic sports person of the world may make differences in the behaviours of the
youths. A good behavioural practice among the youths of country will cause cessation of
bad practices related to the obesity and overweight. So, involvement of the sports icon in
this project may positively impact the achievements of this health promotional program. In
addition to this, in order to motivate the youths for improving their health condition, a prize
will be provided to 5 youths. As a reward, they will win a 1 day tour with the specific sports
person and also he will get a chance to see a live match of that sports icon. Along with this,
such awareness programs will also be arranged in the local community so that the parents
and the community members can also be involved in this process of health promotion.
Health Promotion Evaluation Proposal
The evaluation of the efficacy and effect of a program in health promotion and illness
prevention programs can be used to document the quality, price, and effect of the program
or to identify regions of enhancement by collecting data over the whole of its execution to
determine if program goals are being achieved (Wierenga et al., 2013). During the program
scheduling stage, assessment strategies should be recognized. The development of an
assessment plan can assist explain and guide the conduct of an assessment strategy. The
study issues, assessment actions, assessment design and information collection strategies
are important factors. Various kinds of concepts and frameworks for evaluating the
promotion of health and disease prevention may be used (DiClemente, Salazar & Crosby,

2013). Each design and framework employs various evaluation, information collection and
measurement methods. For this health promotion plan Impact Evaluation framework will be
utilised for the evaluation process. Impact assessment evaluates the impact of a program on
respondents. Suitable measures include understanding, attitudes,
awareness, behaviours and/ or abilities. Impact assessment assesses the impact of a
program on project members and stakeholders. It monitors the results, but also the
outcomes that have arisen as a result (Gertler et al., 2016).
