Recommendations to Achieve Operational/Strategic Objectives for Safe Cosmetics Program

RE: RECOMMENDATIONS TO ACHIEVE OPERATIONAL/STRATEGIC
OBJECTIVES FOR SAFE COSMETICS PROGRAM.
I believe that everyone would like to live in an unpolluted environment. My concern
in this letter is to discuss the hazards caused by the cosmetics products in California
through the pollution of the environment. Cosmetic products are made of harmful
chemical products that pollute the environment when poorly disposed. I am writing
this to give some of the strategies which should be taken into considerations to make
sure that cosmetics products do not harm the environment. I think cosmetic products
are major environmental pollutants and therefore they should be well disposed. Plants,
animal, and human beings are vulnerable to chemical products from cosmetics
products. Some of the cosmetic chemical products are so poisonous that they can
cause massive death of plants and animals. I would like to report various cases
witness in California concerning the effects of cosmetic chemicals. To start with,

poorly disposed cosmetic products have introduced harmful chemicals into the soil.
Keeping it in mind that there are living organisms living in the soil, there has been
massive death of such organisms. In addition, some of the cosmetic chemicals are
washed by running water during rainfall and introduced to the water sources leading
to death of the diversity of aquatic life (Shah & Taylor, 2011). There other witnessed
cases where aquatic animals have been reported dead abruptly. The investigations
done have shown that the death of the aquatic animals is mostly caused by cosmetic
products introduced.
Data mining technique that I will use is tracking patterns technique. This type of the
technique is efficient in detecting the cosmetics products containing harmful
chemicals before they are used by the consumers. It will involve learning of the data
sets in cosmetics manufacturing industries. The technique will be a solution for
recognition of the harmful cosmetics products. Through this technique better handling
mechanisms for these cosmetics products will be determined. In connection to this,
there should be frameworks applied to make sure the same is controlled. I am happy
that the California Department of Public Health has taken the issues seriously
concerning environmental pollution by cosmetic products. I would like to suggest
various strategies that should be taken by the California Department of Public Health
CEO to make sure that the issue is solved effectively. I think the California Safe
Cosmetics Act which was implemented in the year 2005 should be enforced to all
cosmetics manufacturers. Some of the strategies that the California Department of
Public Health should consider so as to achieve their mission of controlling the
environmental hazards caused by the cosmetics products include the following;

One of the strategies to be taken is by making sure that all the cosmetics
manufacturers, distributors, and packers give information about the cosmetics they are
dealing with. The manufacturers should provide the details containing ingredients
used in making the cosmetic products. The California Department of Public Health
should make sure that cosmetic products are investigated to determine if the correct
information is given regarding the type of ingredients used to make them (Washam
2016). The California Safe Cosmetics Act should make sure that ingredients
suspected to be causative of cancer; birth issues and other biological effects on both
plants and animals are well explained. This will be important because the public will
be able to know the type of products they are dealing with. The California Department
of Public Health should also make sure that the manufacturers of cosmetic products
do mention clearly some of the environmental hazards which can be caused by their
products. In addition, the manufacturers should give proper guidelines on how to
dispose the cosmetic bottles and other similar products (Harrad, 2017). In addition to
this, the California government should ban some of the cosmetic products which may
cause health issues. I think there is no need to use cosmetic products which are highly
harmful to our health.
There should be civil education on harmful effects of these cosmetic products. I think
the California Safe Cosmetics Act cannot be enforced without educating the public on
its objectives. In connection to this, the California Department of Public Health
should make sure that there is public participation in this program. Through education
of people on the importance of avoiding some cosmetic products will be a better way
to achieve its objectives. Disposal methods for cosmetics should be taught to the
public as a way of controlling the massive disposal of such products irresponsibly.

Moreover, the shops and saloon using cosmetics daily should be monitored to make
sure that the right cosmetic products are used as per the act. Again, the California
Department of Public Health should make sure that the disposal methods used by the
saloons and other cosmetics shops are effective. This will be best was to make sure
that the cosmetics are handled and disposed of appropriately. The guidelines to
cosmetics products that are suspected to be cancer causative should be provided to the
cosmetic users. They should be taught how to handle those cosmetics and how to keep
them safe. In addition, there should be the development of the user-friendly reporting
systems. These systems should be developed in such a way that they are not complex
to use (Hartman, 2018). They should be responsible for reporting any incident
involving cosmetic products. The reporting systems should be user-friendly to make
sure they give the cosmetic users proper guidelines on how to deal with harmful
cosmetic chemicals.
I think it is important to make sure that there is creation and maintenance of the
internet search engines with an auto-updating database. This will be used by the
companies to update the ingredients used to make their cosmetics products. This will
be a better way to solve the challenges involving cosmetic products because all data
will be accessed via the internet. If anyone will need to enquire or get more
information regarding a certain cosmetic product, he/she will be able to access all the
information on the internet. This will be an effective means to communicate more
information regarding the cosmetic products to the public. Some of the information
should be updated in this database system for easy accessibility. The general
information that should be provided on the internet regarding cosmetics products
includes the following. The information regarding the ingredients used to make the

products and whether the ingredients are harmful or not. In addition, the methods of
disposing of the cosmetics empty containers having some chemical compounds
should be well illustrated in the internet database.
I would like to suggest that there should be also committee formed with the other
health advocates who should give other frameworks regarding cosmetic products. The
collaborative research should be also enforced to ensure that the products are safe for
use. I think through research, there will be better identified ways on how to replace
the harmful ingredients with less harmful ones. The idea here is coming up with the
less harmful cosmetics products ingredients that won’t interfere with the lives of
people and other living organisms. In my opinion, the CEO should employ well-
specialized personals who will be investigating the cosmetics products used in the
saloons and in beauty therapies. This will make sure that illegal cosmetic products are
not used for the safety of the environment and human health. In addition, the research
institutes should be consulted to come up with other ingredients that serve a similar
purpose to those harmful. This will be a better way to control the hazardous effects
caused by cosmetic products. I believe that there are environmental and health-
friendly ingredients which can be used in place of the harmful ones. It is my pleasure
to urge the CEO to make use of this opportunity to collaborate with the researchers. I
believe the researchers can come up with the alternative ingredients for the safety of
people.
