Exercise 2
30 Minute Plan for a PR to be organized on a Community Information Session that will be
hosted by WeKarre in Inner Eastern Melbourne
1. Situation Analysis
1.1. Background
The National Disability Insurance Scheme is going to be made available in the region of
Inner Eastern Melbourne for the very first time, from the 1st of November. It is the aim of
WeKarre to organize a community information session that will be held at Deakin University in
Burwood, on the benefits of the NDIS and how it is going to work and improve the lives of
people who have disabilities. The community information session will be organized for care
givers, for educators and social workers, for organizations that work in the area of disability and
for people who live with disabilities.
1.2. Problem Statement
While the region of Inner Eastern Melbourne is home to a substantive number of people who
live with disabilities, as well as people who are involved in care giving work to improve the life
of the disability, there is not much awareness here or in the surrounding areas of the National
Disability Insurance Scheme and what it entails. Specifically, the real impact that NDIS can have
on the life of a person who is disabled as well as the life of a care giver is something that not too
widely known and it is the aim and desire of WeKarre to provide greater clarity on the subject of
NDIS for care givers, social workers, educators and for people living with disabilities so that
they can truly embrace and benefit from the NDIS once it is made available for them in the Inner
Eastern Melbourne region from the 1st of November.

2. Objectives
The objectives of the community information session to be organized by WeKarre at Deakin
University in Burwood are as follows –
To spread greater awareness about the NDIS and its impact on the lives of people living
with disabilities
To explain how NDIS can influence the work done by care givers for people who are
living with disabilities
3. Target Publics
The target public for the community information session that is to be organized by
WeKarre in Deakin University in Burwood are care givers, organizations working on the
rights and care and protection of the disabled, social workers, educators and people who live
with disabilities.
3.1. How the Target Public perceive the World Around Themselves and
Themselves
The target public comprises of people who reside in the region of Inner Eastern
Melbourne and are people who are either disabled themselves and are therefore fully aware of
the pains of being so, and people who are actively involved in improving the lives of those who
are disabled through education, social work, advocacy and care giving. In spite of working full
time as care givers and advocates of disabled people and in spite of living with disabilities, the
members of the target audience have little or no knowledge about the NDIS that is going to be

made available in the region from the 1st of November and could benefit from a community
information session organized on the same.
3.2. How the Target Public Perceives the Community Information Session to be
Organized by WeKarre
The target public is looking forward to the community information session that will be
organized by WeKarre at Deakin University in Burwood. The target public hopes to gain a better
understanding of the benefits of NDIS from the information that will be provided as part of this
community session on the same.
3.3. Reading and Comprehension Level of the Target Public
The reading and comprehension level of the target public is one that ranges from high to
medium, primarily since this is a group of people that is made up of working professionals such
as care givers, social workers, educators and members of organizations who work for protecting
the disabled, over and above people who are actually disabled themselves.
3.4. Understanding whether or Not the Target Public will read what is being
Written
Since the target public comprises of individuals who are actively involved in making the
lives of disabled people better and more dignified or are people who have to live with disabilities
themselves, they are going to be interesting in knowing that a community information session
will be held soon in Deakin University Burwood by an organization of repute like WeKarre, on
the subject of NDIS which will soon make its way into inner eastern Melbourne and which is
aimed at rapidly improving the protection and security of disabled people.
