The following portfolio is focused on the four core skills: public speaking, time
management, assertiveness and teamwork. Each skill in part A is examined taking
into consideration my competency and explained in the context of both educational
and expert tool-kits. The tool-kits which are used in this assignment are connected to
the skills that I will use to reflect on different areas together with the results from my
colleagues and friends.
The final part B presents my weaknesses and strengths that have learnt from the
above core skill analysis. The failings that are displayed will take place in an action
for improvement and achieve goals.
Public Speaking
What is the core skill to develop?
According to Chen (2014) the public speaking can be explained as a sustained formal
presentation made by a talker to an audience. Public speaking refers to to that process which
presenting a speech to the live audience. I need to develop public speaking skill which is

important for improving due to understanding each function in effective manner .

Public speaking skill is important for each person as this will help in increasing confidence of
speaking among a broad audience.
Furthermore, this skill assists in transferring correct information and message from one
person to another in a proper manner. Ryan (2013) states that the public speaking improves
the communication skills, the leadership skills, enhancing the personal confidence and the
ability to read and understand others better.
Public speaking skill is important for each person as this will help in increasing confidence of
speaking among large audience. All people said that a person who speak properly so that they
will easily deal with any type of people. If a person listens properly then they can easily
remove all barriers and errors which are faced by him. The most effective is public speaking
skills which always show the confidence and behaviour of individual when he/she is talking
with another person in the organisation. This will assist in transferring accurate information
and data without any interference. It is one of the effective tools for developing
understanding between one person and large audience. It is essential for me is to increase my
public speaking skill which help in building confidence and attitude toward large group of
people (Sellnow, 2004). Also, this skill assists in transferring correct information and
message from one person to another in proper manner.

I am very bad at public speaking, because according to Belbin 2004 I am scared to
stand in front of an audience. See Appendix 7
This skill will help in analysing behaviour of an individual and measure the confidence level
of large number of people. When a person speaks among mass audience he/she will
communicate properly and choose those words which are understandable by them. When I
communicate with my colleagues, so they are say that this skill is help in increasing
confidence and remove fear of speaking among large number of people in the stage. Taking
into account my capabilities and abilities for speak with public I consider myself as a
beginner. Different analysis from doing public speaking quiz which I gain 7 points and on the
view point of housemates in Johari windows test. I am quiet, tender and anxious person.
Therefore, I am not a public speaker. The result does not surprise me as a reflection on my
superior working experience and I was struggling to deliver certain information for a group.
Thus, the outcome from the past test must be associated with the feedback from my teacher.

During the presentation, I seemed nervous and turned away from the audience. I am very
hesitate person and my pace of taking is very slow that I made minimum time for delivering
the presentation.
 Belbins test- According to this test, public speaking skill is function within an
organisation in effective manner. This test is when company identify strength and
weakness of an individual.
 Personality test- This test is used in public speaking skill is to select the personnel
whose behaviour is good towards group members and achieve task.
 Johari window adjectives- It is that test which helps in describing the each member
participation, capability, ability and adaptation.
 Feedback on presentation- This is useful for when a person gives presentation in
front of large number of audience so it is necessary for them is to give proper
response. it help in analysing the feedback respond.

I am good speaker and know the source to transfer right information or data by holding
superiority of communication in proper manner within an organisation. I analysed that when
speak among large audience I feel good for giving them proper information and data. The
main quality for improving public speaking skills which help in commanding on speaking
that is used for transferring right data or information to the right person in appropriate
manner. This is very important for an individual is to transfer relevant message to the other
person.

The most essential drawbacks are that I do not know how to write impressive content which
directly affect the speaking skills (Salvatore and et. al., 2012). This skill will help me in
future time when I teach something to the large number of people as a teacher, lecturer or
professor. So that, it is necessary for me to remove all these issues or problems for
completing my work and functions in minimum time without making any problem or hurdles
which may affect the success of the firm. These activities will develop risk for me directly or
indirectly. Such skill assists in managing such things for increasing my confidence and
attitude among people within an organisation, so they will help in managing such issues or
problems in proper manner.
Assertiveness

According to the Alberti and Emmons, (2017) Assertive behaviour includes express a person
needs, rights and thoughts and provide other individual to the same opportunities. Assertive
build or develop disputes which need to solve major conflicts. Resolution for conflicts apply
to peaceful setting of the disputes situation.

Assertiveness can motivate the self esteem and also gain respect from other person, which
help in identifying and learning the positive behaviours. The conflict resolution help the
assertiveness in communication for accomplishing better outcome. It states that assertiveness
support in interacting in satisfying manner with another individual (Phillips, 2002).
Therefore, solve conflict help a person or team on specific topic without making aggression.

It is necessary for assertiveness skill is to apply variance analysis, I could see myself as a
superior level. As per the assertiveness, questionnaire test help in making effective time
period. According to the Johari window test, I am sociable, understandable and helpful
person. In addition to this, the ability to understand others and resolve disputes which major
strength (Geyer, 2009). The result surprise me as reflecting with my past working experience
so I am always had my personal opinion whether it is right or wrong (Daft and Lane, 2007).
Further, the result of past analysis which might be associated with upcoming outcome of my
Jung personality test which shows my positive behaviour as an extroverted.
 Belbins test- The test is used for also resolving major issues and problems by
analysing upcoming conflicts among each member in the firm. Personality test- This test is used for identify the behaviour or personality of person
towards resolving major issues or problems in proper manner. By evaluating nature
and personality of staff member then recognised the major issue.
 Johari window adjectives- It is the test which is used for make proper methods and
options for properly deal with such conflicts or assertiveness. This will make a person
de-motivated. By doing this test, employee nature is also match with other person
behaviour.
 Feedback on presentation- All these tests are useful for make an individually
able, capable and effectively doing work and also take help in resolving major
issues or problems. After that take each colleague response or feedback

For determination of results of the assertiveness form, Johari window test, jung personality
test and my nature so I can said that all the tool kits are reasonably confiding. For example,
my personal idea in Johari window test does not totally match with my colleagues
perceptions so I can identify myself as real that is not a part of conflict resolve skill.

Assertiveness and conflict resolution is the useful skills in my future time period as they will
provide various benefits. They can be helpful for defend myself and also take it on end point
at sound manner. According to Butler and Hope (2007), conflict resolution and assertiveness
skills assist person for identifying major issues and problems or also respect the other
individual abilities for future time period.
Time management

According to Nawrot and Doucet, (2014) Time management belongs to that methods and
techniques which allow people for arranging better outcome in limited period of time. Also
management of time is another set of skills which help to coordinate and manage whole life
and also more productivity for make necessary improvement in life.
Why is this core skill important?
Time management has various advantages which help an individual for achieving more
opportunities in short time period and reducing or minimising tension and make them able for
taking effective decisions. Practice of time management skill can aim people for performing
rapid and healthy selections. When a person are free from time and required to take proper
decisions so they move towards end conclusion without determining different chances, this
will cause to poor decision making process. The most successful person in the world can be
accompanying to their accomplishment for greater time management actions and in their
regular activities (Rao, 2015). For managing better time, they get accurate results in whole

time. For example, time management skilled of individual are performing their tasks on
proper time period.

For identifying the ability to manage the time and variance analysis, I can consider myself as
a unique person. In this skill, questionnaire show that I gained score of 44 out of 50 that
refers that I have accurate and outstanding time management skills. Therefore, management
of time skill test determine the results for management of questionnaire. Test investigation
recognised high score which mainly indicate that I have needed to properly manage time
skills. This outcome does not amaze me so it will consider my time management skills. Then
it will help me in completing my assignment on given deadline (Bureau, 2013).
Competencies result indicates my plans and priority which are reliable for managing stressful
state. Time managing test skill, questionnaire time management and other competence
outcome describe how to manage business in smooth way on given time period and also get
desired goals and targets.

analysing the strength and weak point of each staff members.
 Personality test- In time management skill, it is necessary for capable person is to
identify their other individual personality as per them make effective schedule of
time, so they can easily achieve the target and goals.

who easily manage time and deal with difficult issues.

According to Griffin and Care (2014) Team working define the work which has to be done
by two or more people with various skills, abilities, talent, uniqueness and possess a person
experts on different work and should share the correct knowledge by various communication
channels in the group. I need to develop my team working skill which helps in building
strong relation with another person for achieving desired goals and objectives in proper
manner .

Team working is important for maintaining coordination and relation among each person.
This will assist in reaching the end which is set by team or group members for mutual
understanding. Team working skills help me in achieving necessary goals and objectives for
doing work together. Within the team, all the group members work together for making
effective coordination and cooperation in appropriate manner (Foucault, Davidson and
Burchell, 2010).

is that quality which helps in motivating and inspiring person for achieving desired goals and
objectives within an organisation. This will help in attaining targets and goals which provide
profitability to the firm. In context with the team working skill, I need to consider myself as a
beginner. There are different role test which can help in identify my primary abilities in the
team which are likely to be leader, summariser and explorer. The outcomes can happening
me that is based on my previous teamwork education within the workplace I was a person
who challenge the team for increasing the target but they does not lead or search something.

Thus, the result of Belbins team roles help in implementation and coordinating better
functions. The belbin's test point of view is more appropriate to my personality. As per my
last poster presentation experience, I was team member whose main motive is to setting
desired goals and conduct suitable tasks in proper manner.

or groups and also identifies strength and weakness of each team members for make
taking idea for every member capability or ability.
 Personality test- It is that test which is used for make proper balance between all team
members and identify their behaviour towards each work.

skills, abilities, capability which are helpful within team working and by this they can
easily get desired goals and targets.
 Feedback on presentation- The team working skill is used for analysing and
examining the actual target which they need to set and after completion of all
target members require taking effective response or feedback.

I have great attitude and I am continuously help my partners that will make them less
controversy by this they can go higher. Leader are those people who mainly responsible for
inspiring and encouraging individual or group members for reaching the desired target and
goals in proper manner. They also focus on increasing their skills and attributes for better
functioning of each task. Leaders help in motivating and encouraging team members for
performing work together in appropriately way. For the evaluation, I can use certain
management attitude which assists in achieving potential goals and objectives for using team
working skills. They also do each thing in better way. Managers and leaders are main persons
of an organisation who are responsible for maintaining relation between employees and
employers for work together for reach the target (Sosik and Cameron, 2010). By doing this
work, they can easily usage of advance technology and done innovation activities which help
in achieving targets at work place. I analysed that Pioneer required developing effective
communication between higher to lower management level.

Team working skill is helpful for me in future as it will assist in accomplishing desired goals
and objectives of the company. This skill will show the internal quality of mine for which I
can work together with all team members in appropriate manner by developing mutual
understanding between each member. Knowledge helps in resolving any type of complex
issues and inspires a person to leader how to communicate with other individual in effective
way. The skill of team working is help in together go on right direction or path to their

subordinates by which easily achieve the target aims and objectives of an enterprise. An
individual who give suggestion or advise for better communicate with other person in
effective manner are pioneers (Wiklund Gustin and Wagner, 2013). The ethical duties help in
making positive environment for taking accurate steps in best quality for accomplish each
task. The major advantage is that leaders required promoting team building skills which are
performed by them in an organisation for reaching targeted goals.
Summary and Action Plan:
Self-awareness allows people to see what they are capabilities to do best and what needs to be
improved to not prevent them from doing the job successfully. Furthermore, it includes the
strengths and the weaknesses which enables the individuals to understand better their
personality and others (Tribune Onlineng, 2017). Therefore, to understand others and to be a
successful entrepreneur, it is important to highlight what are my strengths and weaknesses
and to explain the ways how to improve them.
My strengths and weaknesses and how to improve them:
By analysing the four core skills of teamwork, public speaking, assertiveness and conflict
resolution and time management, I found out that the assertiveness is one of my strengths.
For instance, it allows me to display good manners at my workplace, to be more confident to
ask whatever I need to know and to act strategically. According to Luna (2015), the assertive
behaviour is diplomatic, confident and strategic.
The next and significant strength outcome is the time-managing. Regardless the technology
the time never stops or takes back steps. Therefore, it's managing is extremely important not
to meet the deadlines and gain more free time for personal use. Marquis and Huston (2009)
state that the time management is making optimal use of available time.
However, among the strengths, I discovered that I have more weaknesses such as conflict
resolution, team working and public speaking.

Starting with conflict resolution, I have always been avoiding the conflicts and rarely trying
to solve them. As an entrepreneur student, learning about this skill will help me to overcome
the challenges in my personal and professional life. That is why in the next six months I will
try to improve this skill by reading more about conflict management and taking some online
courses.
The further challenging skill that I need to develop is my team-working ability.
Understanding the importance and the advantages of the teamwork I will try to focus and
increase my knowledge how to work in a team. For this reason, the next months I will
interact with more people and will try to be an active listener and identify their problems,
which is part of the teamwork. Beside that will book a place on online group activities and
read books.
The last and final weakness of the above analysis is my public speaking skill. As a novice in
this core skill the upcoming months I will ask for advice from a friend who works in GLBT
community (an initialism that stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) to help me to
overcome my fears by including me in some voluntary public speaking organisations. After
that, I will measure my improvements by completing some reliable test and will continue to
practice my presentation skill by recording myself on the camera.
