INTRODUCTION
The academic goals are defined as statements in which describe the competences,
attributes and skills that students should possess upon complementation of a course of program.
These goals are operating within the interacting domains of knowledge, skills and attitudes. To
achieve these goals require to set SMART goals where require to understand the importance of
these goals. In this essay consist of importance of set goals and identify short term as well as
long term goals for university students. Along with identify methods to remember new
information.

Importance of setting goals
A Goal is an idea of the future or desired outcomes that an individual or a group of
people envision, plan and commit to acquire. It is important to set goal by an individual because
it boosts the process of personal development. The setting of goals carry out positive changes
and growth that's good for everyone (Blumenthal and et. al, 2012). Such as, when students is
able to set goals, it supports them be responsible for each action or step they take. After setting
the goal a student make effort to achieve it in set period of time and according to that take
appropriate action. It helps to improve different skills like learning, time management and many
others. It pushes students to handle challenges head on and work on their weaknesses for overall
success. It is essential for everyone to set effective goals. Some of the reasons for setting them
are mentioned below:
Goals provide focus because without any goal a person will not make effort to achieve
things. Through goals student stay motivated and make effort to achieve them. It helps to
increase learning power and focus on life of an individual. Goals help to measure progress of
students and being able to figure out the progress which is highly rewarding and will supports to
maintain concentration, keep head held high and energy up.
Identify important short term and long term goals for university students
Goal that can be achieved quickly is known as short term goal. It means these goals
related to shorter period of time and accomplish soon. For a university students require to set
short term goals that helps in improvement like Academic grades, learning something new,

planning to study and many more (Cox, 2013). The short term goals for a university student is to
explore learning skills, completing assignment on time, enhancing abilities to take notes etc.
Long term goals are essential for a successful career. To accomplish big achievement
students are requires to set long term goals and according to that prepare all things. These goals
are most important for university students because it is related to their life goals. Long term goals
are showing positive impact on students and motivate for their work. By better understanding of
possible roadblocks students increase their learning capacity and according to situation take right
decision for goals (Flores, 2015). The long term goals for a university student is to focus on self
improvement, developing qualities such as, working on MS excel, word, PowerPoint etc.,
becoming capable to get desired job in future.

Methods use by students to improve and remember new information
Students are learning a lot of new information at university and have regular exams. In
every semester they are submitting projects on different topics and for this they conduct research
through different methods. It is required for university students to remember all new information
and improve knowledge. So for this they are using different types of method such as:
The visual approach is good method for students that helps to remember new
information although it has actually been shown to be the most efficient. Many students easily
learn things from pictures, videos because it leaves direct impact on their mind and show good
results. Most of the students get advantages from this method during studies. They pay attention
on images, charts and other graphics on notebook. (Renko and et. al, 2015).
Structure and Organize method is important to collect any type information students
are required to prepare plan in set structure and according to that take further action. As a result
students take benefits through structuring and organizing the materials for study. It is required to
grouping same concepts and terms together or make an outline in the note books as well as text
books to supports groups in related concepts. Such as, To prepare a project report require to
collect information from different sources. According to that a team leader can prepare a plan
and allocate work to people as per the interest in order to complete project on time. (Shogren and
Plotner, 2012) .

According to Elaborate and Rehearse method in order to recall information students
are required to pay attetion towards their studies. It is one of the effective method which is used
by most of the students to learn different things of study. Such as this technique would be read a
more detailed information of what that terms means (Slater, Mohr and Sengupta, 2014).
Attention is one of the important element for the memory that helps to collect
information from different sources and remember for long time. To focus on study it is required
to select place which is free from distraction like television, radio, music and other things. These
things become challenges when rounding atmosphere is not supporting study. The university
students apply this method to remember information.
CONCLUSION
As per the above essay it is defined that goal is important part of any student that helps in
personal and professional development. These goals are categorised into short term and long
term way that achieved by students in certain period of time. Along with to achieve these goals
