Explaining why community/ society negative attitudes, myths of aging or stereotypes can affect
physiological and psychological well-being of older people.
On the other hand, positive attitude of society, family and other
people who lives around older people may put positive impact on
mental and physical health of older people in term of contributing to
improve their health even better and made them able to live stress
and depression free life, which is quite beneficial for them and their
love ones. When older adults obtain care and concern from their
people, they felt happy and never get any kind of depression which
may negatively affect their well-being. It can be said that positive
attitude or behavior in context of ageing encompasses with higher
degree of satisfaction with life, better mental health and self-report
physical. It leads to decrease extent of anxiety and high depression
when an older person have.
Negative attitude or unexpected behavior of society had always put
negative impact on mental stability and psychological well-being of
older adults, as it let them felt that they are a kind of burden upon
family and other people because they need extra care. It is one of
those factors that may negatively impacting mental and physical
health of older people, which is not quite good for their lives. Just
because of negative attitude of society towards older adults,
individual aged person may drive towards depression and take too
much stress which is unpredictable.
Myths of aging is another factor that also
impact psychological and physiological well-
fare of older people in negative manner. For
example, it is a kind of myth that older
people may not be able to learn new things,
which is not fact. This myth may affect the
confidence level of these people negatively
and let their morale down.
