The author addresses the challenge of estimation of video QoE by use of QoS metrics by focusing on the understanding of ABR (adaptive bitrate) streaming. They present ABR streaming technology as a solution and develop a quality of experience monitoring system for OTT service for streaming. The proposed solution is convincing as it monitors different metrics about viewers' experiences in watching YouTube videos. The strength of the proposed solution is that it monitors the buffering duration, the percentages of video player buffered, IP geolocation database and measures the startup delay.

A problem addressed
The author is addressing the challenge of estimation of video QoE by use of QoS metrics by
focusing on the understanding of ABR (adaptive bitrate) streaming.
This is through evaluation of several metrics of QoE (Zhang, Wen, Chen & Khisti, 2013) by
examining the rate of abandoning videos in YouTube, which happens whenever one closes the video
when playing back either because of lack of importance or he/she is bored.
Did they discuss and compare related work?
They compared and discussed other related work this is by comparison of the widely used
progressive download vs the ABR streaming. In the progressive download, when required the video
servers torrents one video file.
Contribution of their work
To solve this problem ABR streaming technology was presented. In ABR a server of the video
keeps details in large resolutions hence bitrates and the best available bitrate is chosen by a player
irrespective of several issues such as the existing bandwidth of network, the remaining occupancy of
playout buffer, resolution of screen and capabilities of the device of the one viewing the video.
Significance of the contribution
The video player uses an estimating bandwidth in monitoring the existing data when
downloading. The video player’s ABR heuristics are used in selecting the best available bitrate basing on
the speed of downloads and the playout buffer remainder while the video is being played. Nam, Kim,
Calin, Schulzrinne (2014) says that the hardware specification of the person viewing the video devices are
taken into consideration when selecting bitrate algorithm through ABR heuristics.
The approach of the solution
They developed You Slow new quality of experience monitoring system for OTT service for
streaming which checks a number of playout happenings for example latency of start-ups, buffering and
bitrate shifts straight from ABR players when watching videos on YouTube website.
The extension are distributed via chrome web store and the You Slow website. At the background
of the chrome You Slow is ran and injected into the monitoring script of QoE in the web page when one
watches a video in YouTube website (Ahlehagh, & Dey, 2013).

Is the proposed solution convincing?
It is very convincing because as viewers can monitor different metrics about their experiences in
watching You Tube videos that is how occasionally do viewers experience rebuffering and video bitrates
they naturally watch. Hence they can equate the performance of their own IPS with other indigenous
ISPs.

Strength and Weakness
The Strength of this proposed solution is that it monitors the buffering duration, the percentages
of video player buffered, IP geolocation database and measures the startup delay.
Its weakness is, that the extension of chrome does not operate well on mobile phones platforms such as
androids and iOS when viewing video on YouTube as the comparison part is not visible.
Technical improvement
In order for the authors to improve the aspect of this research paper, they ought to have set an
adequate introduction of the ABR streaming. That is, what it is, what impact is has on the social life of the
society and expound further on how it is linked to the subject matter of the research?
