Executive summary
Purpose of the quality improvement initiative
Quality improvement initiative is known to improve the health service for the people and
populations which result in desired health outcome and is reliable with the evidence based
practice. In post-partum unit, the major reason for delay is workload of paediatrics due to which
they are unable to for rounds in time. As an outcome it create huge havoc among patient
recipient (Dundon et al., 2016). There are many evidence available which highlight the health
risk to mother and child due to delay in discharge. The major health risk due to long stay in
hospital is related to feeling of inadequacy, parental grief and poor child mother relationship
(Goodwin et al., 2015). Further, as bed is limited in the hospital, the care recipient have to face
problem in staying at hospital. They have to spend night in small chair and some of the families
have other children which require their presence. Further as an impact, there is less number of
admission in hospital due less space due to which HCAHPS provide low score. Therefore, the
main purpose of the project is to take step to reduce the length of the stay of mother in hospital
units and promote early discharge. The projects also aims to create awareness about the impact
of long stay in the health of mother and child.
Target population
There are huge number of people who are at the health risk due to long discharge
procedure of the hospital especially the mother and new born babies. Beside them, elderly
patient, children and patient with ill health are also regarded as the risk group. Therefore, the
target population for the project will include mother, elderly people and children (Honeycutt et
