Leadership and Management in Nursing-Quality Improvement Proposal
Statement of the Problem:
Many healthcare organizations are unable to monitor the outcome of the care process.
Inadequate methods of using data to measure the methods and monitor healthcare outcomes
affect the systems of improvements in the quality and safety of the healthcare process.
Literature Review
Quality improvement (QI) in healthcare involves continuous and systematic actions that
improve health care services and outcomes in the targeted group of patients. The role of every
nursing practice is to promote safety through quality care (Nelson et al. 2016). This consists of
balancing the needs and interests of the nursing association and the public to provide quality and
safe care. Every nurse must employ key leadership styles and theories so that they can provide
safe and efficient care. Analyses of data are vital to monitor the healthcare outcomes within the
target patient group. Either transformational leadership theory or participative leadership theories
can improve nursing leadership effectiveness in different situations (Kilbourne et al. 2018).
Nursing leaders should choose the most effective approach based on the given scenario to
achieve the objectives of the organization through measuring and monitoring data.
Every healthcare setting should use various business principles to manage patient care
needs effectively, including leadership, development of successful plans, teamwork, and using
data to analyze results. However, the nurse must ensure successful care coordination, consisting
of evidence-based practice, teamwork, quality improvements, patient-centered care, and
collaboration, and using data to monitor and evaluate the healthcare outcome (Marshal et al.
2016). Data is used to provide a connection between the level of improved health services and
