Q1. Using the article “Revisiting the Limits to Growth After Peak Oil” provided in the class
summarize key learnings in terms of limit to growth. What are the means by which your country
is now tackling these issues?
A1. The analysis of the case study of Revisiting the Limits to Growth After Peak Oil is an
extensive research and analysis reports for finding of limits to growth factors that have become a
prominent issue. The term Peak Oil is referred to as the increased and skyrocketed price rise in
fuel due to energy deficiency and depleting fossil fuels against the requirement (Hall, 2018).
Limits to growth are the factors that act as limiting and restrictive characteristic hurdles for
growth. The analysis of the case presents the following learnings that are the limitations to
growth in current scenario.
Increased population and limitation of resources
Rising threats to biodiversity and biosphere
Rapidly rising prices of oil and energy
Exponentially rising human population
Rise in Energy requirement as a result of over-population
Dependence of modern agricultural techniques on energy (Rye, 2018)
Economical setbacks in terms of highest rates of unemployment
Newer and rising environmental problems like acid rain, ozone depletion, global
warming etc.
These factors mentioned above are limiting factors to growth because the exploitation of natural
resources due to over-crowding has created complex problems which cannot be easily resolved.
The governmental and state are attempting and making efforts to manage the rising problems and
prevent the limits of growth factors to only act as limiting and not diminishing towards growth
(Bithas, 2016). Following are the action initiated by the state for attempting to manage and
prevent exploitation with reversal to environment.
The government has made serious efforts to educate citizens the impact of over-crowded
and the possible set of issues the country would be heading towards
With an attempt to maintain the environmental balance between biosphere and human
consumption, the government, initiated efforts for supporting sustainable business
practices and reducing taxes or aiding in subsidies for nature friendly businesses

Investment into alternative energy resources, with promotion into innovation like that by
vehicle giant Toyota, for development of hybrid vehicles is a step towards alternative
energy substitute
Development of alternative energy resources would also reduce the dependency on
depleting fossil fuels and green-house effect caused by burning them
With investment into research wing and to maintain the economical balance of the
company, the job opportunities are being created
Q2. Compare the steps one needs to follow to obtain approval for a project that requires EIA in
two of your chosen state. Please choose the state as per the guide below. Specify the
commonalities or differences?
A2. The Ecological Sustainability Development in Australia follow the main policy with
principles of integrating environment and economic goals, maintaining environmental assets
along with the aspects of recognizing global dimension. The process of Environmental Impact
Analysis is performed to have a view over the environment with the impact of business activity
(Jones, 2017). EIA is a process that enables decision making. The process of crafting an EIA for
creating an outline to a business goal are associated to various state legislations that the business
plans and aims to begin at. The standard EIA process remains the same, with certain changes in
state legislations.
For a business plan to be implemented and executed with two different regions in the country,
Queensland and Victoria, the process of EIA must be adhered with the two norms of QLD and
VIC respectively. The Environment Effects Act, 1978 is also known as VIC. The EIA in Victoria
in intertwined with this law, with the final decision making remains with the prime minister who
can set new terms for business operations (De Witt, et al., 2019). The EIA is an indispensable
part in the law itself. For Queensland, the law of State Development and Public Works
Organization Act, 1971 is a state development act and is also known as the QLD.
