Agile & Lean Project Management
Introduction
There are numerous project management methodologies defined. Agile and lean project
management are two of such methodologies that are adaptive and provide the project
management and resources to effectively carry out the project activities. Agile project
management is a methodology that offers adaptive and ad-hoc methods for managing the
project activities. Lean is a project management methodology that includes lean concepts,
such as lean construction, manufacturing, and thinking processes for the management of the
projects.
The project that is being carried out is the Jibo Robot project. The robot will be developed
using Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning technologies and it will be a personal
assistant for the users (Jib, 2019).
Product Vision
For: People of all age groups and genders
Who: wish to automate the daily processes and activities at homes and in offices
(Kettunen, 2009)
The Jib Robot is a AI-based machine
That: would act as a personal digital assistant and will be secure
Unlike: other AI and IoT based systems in the market
Our Product: will integrate the daily activities

Opinions from Customers and Requirements Analysis
There will be a number of different user groups and customers that will be involved in the
project. The design and development of the robot will be done for the people of all the age
groups and genders. However, the demands and expectations of these users and customers
may differ on the basis of their age group or gender. There are different techniques that must
be used for collecting the information sets and opinions from the customers. Surveys and
questionnaire is one such technique that provides the details on the customer expectations on
the basis of the response that is provided by them. This technique will allow the members of
the project team to reach to a wider audience in minimal time (Serrador & Pinto, 2015).
The use of interviews shall be done as another technique to capture the opinion from the
customers. There shall be personal discussion sessions arranged with the customers to gain an
understanding of their expectation from the system. There are five categories of customers
identified for the project that is being developed. These customers are grouped on the basis of
their age group and on the basis of their professional background. The requirements and
expectations of these customers vary on the basis of their demands (Elias, 2016). The five
customer groups that have been identified include the homemakers & children, retired &
senior citizen, young working professionals, middle-aged working professionals, and
business groups. The information shared by these groups is used to develop the requirements
included in the sections below.

technique. It is the technique in which the requirements are specified as must have, should
have, could have, and won’t have. The requirements that are identified as must-have are
given the highest priority and are carried out in the first phase of the project. The
requirements that come under the won’t-have category are not included in the scope of the

Market Attractiveness
Number of customers / potential customers: The number of customers for the product
will be huge as the demand on smart products and services is on a rise. The target
audience includes the customers of all age groups and genders.
Channel to customer (revenue model): The customers will be required to pay once for
the product and they will be able to utilize the services and features of the robot. The
maintenance of the product will be done by the vendor.
Affordability: The product will be affordable to the customer and there will be newer
versions that will be released in the market.
Market trend (e.g. growing / contracting): The market is growing at the moment. This
is because AI and machine learning are the two emerging technologies. There is an
increase in the demand of the products developed using these technologies.
Competitors: There are various companies that are currently working on the AI-based
products and services. Amazon is one such company that has released some of its
products as Amazon Alexa and Amazon Echo in the market. These have been
successful and accepted by the users. Google is also working actively in the field of
AI and Machine Learning.

technique allowed the members of the project team to reach to a wider audience in minimal
time. The use of interviews was done as another technique to capture the opinion from the
customers. There was personal discussion sessions arranged with the customers to gain an
understanding of their expectation from the system. The requirements were also prioritized
effectively using the MoSCoW technique. The lean project management methodology made
sure that the waste associated with the project was minimal since the beginning of the project
(Belvedere, Cuttaia, Rossi & Stringhetti, 2019). There were some of the unwanted data sets
and requirements that were collected in the elicitation process. These were discarded as per
the guidelines under lean management.
Customer engagement and enhanced customer satisfaction is one area that is supported by
both agile and lean project management methods. The same could be achieved in the project
by interacting with the customers through surveys and questionnaires. Also, the user stories
were collected from the customers on the basis of their expectations from the project. The
different groups of customers were selected and the user stories were prepared in simple
language so that the customer expectations were clear and understood by all the members in
the project team. The information from the market was also collected so that the associated
trends and patterns could be understood.
There are certain areas that could be improved upon. One such area is the market analysis.
The information on the target audience and competitor analysis was done in the project.
However, there are numerous different analysis techniques that could have been explored.
The use of PESTLE analysis could have been done to understand the market conditions and
external environment in a better manner. The use of Porter’s five forces could have been done
as well to determine the primary factors in the market.
The project provided an opportunity to acquire the skills and knowledge under agile and lean
project management. It provided the ability to learn the ad-hoc way of managing the project
tasks and activities. The use of lean project management provided a chance to understand the
significance of waste management in the projects and the techniques to reduce the waste.
Also, customer interaction and collaboration techniques are one of the primary takeaways
from the project (Altunel, 2017). The techniques to enhance these levels and the mechanisms
to collect the data sets could be acquired with the aid of these methods.
