Introduction
Overview of the project
Location and site description
The chosen case study is a recently completed residential project which is
located at 31-37B Garfield Street Wentworthville NSW. It is situated on the
eastern side of Cumberland Highway and north of Mildred Street and is in great
proximity to Wentworthville railway station and town center. The site is located
approximately 3.2km west of Parramatta Central Business District (CBD) and
comes under Cumberland Council LGA. The site has a total area of 13,233m2 And
is extensively grassed with parts of bitumen and existing structures that have
been replaced with new structures. The subject site has a slight fall which occurs
over a distance of 61m and hence showing a slight gradient.

Zoning and Development
The chosen case study was
zoned as ‘R4 high-density residential'. ‘The recently completed development
consisted of demolition of existing structures on the subject site and the
construction of 3 residential buildings ranging from 5 to 7 stories consisting of

200 residential units with 1 level of basement car parking (consisting of 217
residential car parking) and storage. The newly completed development also
consists of soft and hard landscaping with stormwater works and replacement
tree planting. This completed development responds to the desired future
character of the Wentworthville area and also raising the standards of build
quality leading the way for future developments in that area.

Reason for selecting the project
The major reason for selecting this project is that it offers a wide scope for
learning the various construction procedures as well as regulations as it entails
both the process of demolition and construction. In addition, it entails the
handling of various materials, which adds to the knowledge of material handling
in construction sites.

Project type
The type of project involves both demolition and construction of structures. For
instance:
Demolition of existing structures at the site;
Removal of demolished materials;
Preparatory civil works;
Excavation as required for proposed single basement car parking;
Construction of three residential structures;
Internal roads, pathways, and landscaping;
Other works as reasonably required and described

Section 2
Management Plan of Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) of the
Project
Introduction
The key significance of this management plan is to offer support to the agreed
project deliverables. It offers a commitment to the regulations of work health and
safety, in addition to the requirements related to the work health and safety
performance. Achieving this will call for cooperation from the project team, who
will be in charge of planning, implementation, as well as a review of the
construction, works. The project management initiatives, as well as various
responsibilities for 31-37 Garfield Street Wentworthville, shall be presented here-
in. The management plan shall be applicable to all the activities which will take
place before, during, and after the project has finished. The safety risk
management process is of great significance, especially when undertaken in a
step by step decision process, it will result in an improved decision-making
process.
Objectives

as AS 4801

Project Work Health & Safety Management
The scope of the project
The site activities shall take place within the certified area, which is 31 - 37
GARFIELD ST. WENTWORTHVILLE. Some of the activities which will take place
include:
Excavation, Crane operation; Roofing, Formwork, Plumbing, Concreting, Electrical
fit-out and reticulation, scaffold erection and dismantle; Installation and removal

of temporary buildings and amenities; Brick Laying, Internal fit-out, and
Concreting. The hierarchy of controls shall guide the handling of all the high-risk
work activities. There will be updating of the risk assessments regularly upon
thorough consultations.
Roles and Responsibilities
The various personnel which will be required in the site includes the designer,
site personnel, contractor, safety team, site supervisor as well as principal
contractor. Their responsibilities are outlined in the section below
Principal contractor
The principal contractor will mainly be in charge of all the coordination activities
within the site, which will entail
Execution of the work, health, and safety management plan (Arulrajah et
al., 2012)
Oversee the promotion of hierarchy of controls in all the activities which
are taking place within the site (Behm & Choon, 2012)
Being in constant communication with the subcontractor's so that the risk
is minimized
Forming the principal part of design and planning in the trade activities
Ensuring that the appropriate workplace health and safety training is
presenting the site
Ensuring that the appropriate plant and equipment is available in the site
Being in charge of the process of reviewing the work health and safety
inspections and reports as well as the recommendations (Berardi, 2013)
Coordinating the various programs, meetings, investigations as well as
reporting to the relevant authorities.
Ensuring that there is compliance with the work health and safety
management plan.
Ensuring safety in the workplace, which entails assisting the injured
employees.
