RANSOMWARE ATTACKS
Introduction:
The report aims in evaluating and assessing two ransomware attacks that took place
within the span of year 2017 to 2019. Ransomware are the part of the Malware which are
designed specifically to damage and infiltrate the system of the computer as well as the
network of personal and organizational use without the very consent of the user. The growth
of the ransomware attacks in all over the world has increased significantly.
In this report the two very popular ransomware attack types has been evaluated to
assess the events that took place in accordance to the attacks. The two attacks that took place
are the WannaCry attack and NotPetya attack. Among several more types of attacks these are
the most vulnerable type of attack that has impacted especially the business organizations
(Mohurle & Patil, 2017).
It has been discovered in the report that the WannaCry attack and NotPetya attack are
the types of the ransomware attack that has infiltrated numerous network and the computer
systems of the organizations as well as the individual users. The report covers all the events
that took place during the attacks on several parts of the world.
Discussion:
WannaCry attacks:
The ransomware can be referred to as the malicious software which has the intention
of creating lag in the systems of the computer and restricts the internet access until the
ransom or the money demanded by the attacker is paid. Usually, the malware is sent by e-
mail and blocks access through data encryption of the system. The settlement is required to
be paid in Bitcoin virtual currency not recognized as an authorized exchange mode (Brewer,
2016). WannaCry is one of the many types of the ransomware which is also referred to as the
Ransomware Attacks: WannaCry and NotPetya_3
