Vision - To procure old books from passed out students and provide them to new students at
affordable rates.
Provide a hangout place college going students which is well equipped with games such as
pool table, bowling alley and a small cafeteria wherein beverages and fast food are available.

Economic and Social Environment
Singapore is a hub of students coming from various country for higher education. The city
has a large population of young people who look for a place to hangout. The bookstore-cum
cafeteria will be placed close to a National University of Singapore wherein there will be
large population of youth visiting. The location is favourable for the business as the students

is more likely to purchase the second hand books which will be provided to them at
affordable rates.
Though the area has a number of restaurants, they are all full-fledged ones. On the other
hand, the mission of the business is to provide a recreational centre for the students wherein
they can play games and surf internet while munching on to some snacks and beverages.
Task 1
a. STATE: VUCA is an acronym that refers to volatility, uncertainty, complexity and
ambiguity. The term was coined by the U.S Army College to denote the modern day world
marred by uncertainty and complexity.

EXPLAIN: Volatility refers to the trait of being exposed to recurrent, quick and
considerable variation in the external environment. Volatility in the market might imply that
there is fluctuations in prices of goods in the short term. Further, it might also indicate the
trend in the demand going in an unexpected direction. Uncertainty is a term that refers to the
situation or result becoming erratic. Complexity encompasses a number of concerns and
components which could be delicately linked together. Ambiguity refers to vagueness and the
inability to comprehend the situation. (Bennett & Lemoine, 2014)

ILLUSTRATE: A business performs in an external environment wherein the trend and
demand could change overnight, leaving the stakeholders in a difficult situation. The VUCA
term refers to the ambiguity and uncertainty in which a business performs. (Ariane, 2017)
Rapid Learning Café works in an environment where there is ample scope of rivals coming
up and posing a threat to the business. For this purpose, it is important that the business has a
back-up plan in store to cope with the change in market scenario. The market trend will be
evaluated every six months or so, so that the change in demand of the books and the preferred
snacks and beverages can be incorporated. The playlist of music playing in the café and the
games will be updated every month or so, so that the client always has something new

offered. In the current scenario, when the danger of Covid19 requires everyone to be inside
their houses, Rapid Learning Café can initiate the home delivery option to deliver the books
and snacks to those who order online. To ensure there is minimum interaction between the
client and the delivery person, the online payment option would be made mandatory. Keeping
minute details in consideration will go miles in ensuring the success of the business.
