Bibliographic details: Siddiqi, A., Irwin, L. G., & Hertzman, C. (2007). The total environment assessment model of early child
development. Vancouver: Organización Mundial de la Salud.
Analysis: The chapters give us an idea about early childhood development. It gives the idea that the development that occurs during
the early years of an individual’s life is the most important ones in the whole life span. The most important development of the central
nervous system is during the pre-natal and post-natal early years. The nutrition of the child during early years also is vital for their
development. The development is characterized by the maternal nutrition, health and well-being, which has direct effects on the
development of the child. It also gives knowledge that the family provides the most influencing environment to the children. The
gender inequities within families have great impact on a child’s development. It shows that level of education and decision-making
power, if given to the women, has positive impact on the child’s development during the early years. The socio-economic position of
the family too contributes to the development. A study shows that the children of homeless families suffer from mental and physical
illness in higher rates. It also gives an idea that father plays a significant role in child’s early development.
