Introduction
The ISO 23081-2: 2009 is responsible for establishing the framework to define the
metadata elements that are persistent with various principles as well as implementation
considerations (Bunn, 2013). These implementation considerations are outlined in the ISO
23081-2: 2006 framework. The following report provides a detailed description on ISO
23081-2: 2009 standard.
Discussion
1. Purpose of the Standard
The main purposes of ISO 23081-2: 2009 standard are as follows:
i) The first purpose is to enable the standardized descriptions of critical contextual
entity and records.
ii) Another significant purpose of this framework is providing common and proper
understanding of the fixed aggregation points for enabling the record interoperability in the
organizational systems (Katuu, 2016).
iii) The third noteworthy purpose of ISO 23081-2: 2009 standard is enabling the
metadata standardization to manage the records within time and space.
2. Scope of the Standard
The main scope of the ISO 23081-2: 2009 standard are as follows:
i) ISO 23081-2: 2009 framework helps in identifying the problems, which are
required to be solved for implementation of metadata to manage the records.
ii) The second scope of this framework is that it identifies as well as explains the
several alternatives to address the problems (Niu, 2013).
