path that helps a person gain back his or her self-
confidence and learning to respect themselves, to
ultimately leading to a more meaningful life (Gillard &
Holley, 2014).
Recovery from mental health disorders thus, provides a
sense of positivity in oneself.

THE MEANING OF “RECOVERY”
For the patients suffering from mental health
issues, the term recovery holds a significant importance
and a deeper meaning. From the patient’s perspectives
recovery is a holistic approach that aims to focus on the
retention of hope, identification of the individual’s
strengths and abilities, finding out ways to surpass their
disabilities and weaknesses, that ultimately leads to a
purposeful and active social life (Cleary et al., 2013).

The term consumers is used to address
people of any age who are receiving the
