INTRODUCTION
HRM (human resource management) is the term utilise for describing formal system
devised for management of staff member within an business firm. In addition to this, human
resource manager responsibility falls within three major areas such as staffing, employee
compensation & benefits as well as designing work(Amruthaand Geetha, 2020). In simple
term it can said that purpose of HRM is to maximize organisation productivity through
optimizing effectiveness of its personnel’s. This report is based on Mark and Spencer which
is British multinational retailer specialist in Clothing, home product as well as food products.
It was founded in 1884 by Michael Mark and Thomas Spencer as well as they are serving at
worldwide level. Respective report will be going to discuss purpose and function of HRM
which are applicable to workforce planning and resourcing. Moreover, strength and weakness
of different recruitment and selection approaches will be elaborate. In addition to this,
benefits of HRM practices in relation of employer and employees with different HRM
practices for enhancing profitability and productivity of company. Along with this,
importance of employees relation for influencing decision as well as different employees
relation will also discuss.

Human resource management is related to the management of work which is concern
about motivating, employing as well as maintaining proper workforce within company. Thus,
HRM provide assistance in dealing with issues or problem related to staff members such as
recruitment, training & development, inspiration, communication, advancement and many
more. In addition to this, it has been also determined that procedure related to hiring, section,
providing direction, assessing workers presentation, rousing workers, keeping up legitimate
relations with representatives as well as their trade. Although in an organisation there are
numerous purpose and function of HRM that provide assistance to business firm in planning

Law compliance – It is one of the most essential function or purpose of human
resource within working of Mark and Spencer because HRM design rules, regulation
as well as policies as per particular nation law in which company is conducting their

operations. In addition to this, it is also human resource department responsibility to
include each and every legal compliance while making any decisions. In relation of
Mark & Spencer, to consider every rules and regulation within home or host country
because respective company is operating at global level.
Staffing need –Human Resource department is generally well known for their duties
related to recruiting employees (Armstrongand Taylor, 2020). This includes making
position declarations thatinvolvesdefiningjob responsibilitiesas well as deciding level
ofskills and requirementwhich are needed for a job position. In respect of Mark &
Spencer their HRM conduct staffing related functions and within this they perform
several functions such as hiring, training, administering test and many more.
Performance appraisal – HR division work in conjunction with particular person
department manager for evaluating performance of staff. Thus, simply it can said that
HRM department is responsible for creating overall company operation as well as
appraisal procedure. Performance appraisal procedure in Mark & Spencer frequently
occur on annual basis. This provide assistance in motivating staff members in
effective manner as well as also result in enhancing company productivity.
Apart from these purpose and function of human resource management there are several
other managerial function also which performed by respective division in Mark & Spencer
are mention below :-
Planning – It is one of the primary function performed by HRM division where
number and type of staff required for achieving organisational goals are determined.
Moreover, research forms core Human Resource Management planning that provide
assistance to management to collect, identify present and future needs, analyse within
company.
Organizing –Organising task is also another essential step of Human resource
management in which task is allocated to each and every member according to the
skills as well as activities which are integrated in relation of common goal.
Directing – This function is related to activating staff at different level and making
their contributing towards accomplishing organisational goals(Herreraand de las,
2020). Thus, in organisation HR manager of company give directions to employees so
they conduct operations in better manner.
