Reflection2 Reflection Recommendation 4: Increase the proportion of nurses with a baccalaureate degree to 80% by 2020. Nurses are in an ideal position to propagate change within the healthcare workforce. I therefore see myself fitting in IOM future of nursing recommendation to increase the proportion of nurses with a baccalaureate degree to 80% by 2020 by earning my bachelor’s degree before the end of the year 2020. According to Gooch. (2015), the transformation of the health care system and the practice settings demand for the same nursing education change. This is because I am working so hard so that I may not have obstacles in obtaining my degree. In regards to my hard work and commitment in achieving my bachelor’s degree, I therefore expect myself to be among the 80% nurses with baccalaureate. Recommendation 5: Double the number of nurses with a doctorate by 2020. I also see myself fitting in the recommendation to double the number of nurses with a doctorate by 2020 by furthering my studies immediately after obtaining my practice license. Although I will not have obtained my doctorate, I will assist in conducting research that is essential for evidence-based practice. Recommendation 6: Ensure that nurses engage in lifelong learning. Additionally, I see myself fitting in the recommendation to ensure that nurses engage in lifelong learning by making the practice of lifelong learning in my life. To achieve this, I will focus on the most important aspects of nursing so that I may be able to develop good communication, research and problem-solving skills, all of which are essential for a lifelong learner. Since I am self-motivated and committed towards the IOM future nursing recommendations, I believe my pursue for life-long learning will influence my colleagues to

Moreover, the challenges that affect the delivery of quality care are as a result of insufficient improved skills among the nurses (American Association of Colleges of Nursing, 2015). Identify your options in the job market based on your educational level. Based on my educational, I have several options in the job market. These include research nurse, nursing consultant, nurse administrator and clinical nurse specialist. Additionally, I can be a counsellor, pediatrician, or even midwife. How will increasing your level of education affect how you compete in the current job market? I believe that increasing my level of education will equip me with advanced knowledge and skills which will affect how I compete in the current job market. This is because further education will expand my scope of practice thereby increasing my ability to make an easy career transition as well as improving my job marketability. According to Reed (2016), increasing the level of education helps an individual to keep pace with the trends in the industry as workplace is evolving faster. I therefore believe that furthering my studies will equip me with the latest trends which will ensure that my knowledge and skills remain relevant in the job market. Basically, my job market will be wide if I increase my education level. How will increasing your level of education affect your role in the future of nursing? Increasing my level of education goes along with the IOM future nursing recommendations to increase the proportion of nurses with a baccalaureate degree to 80% by 2020 and to double the number of nurses with a doctorate by 2020. I therefore expect to be among these population so that I may be able to gain a competitive edge. I also expect my role to demonstrate success in respect to skills, complexity and specialization.
