Activity/ Event: Gibbs cycle

Description: Describe factually what happened during your critical incident or

1st reflection:
During the maths class, there were only 2 students who were attending the class from which
the one who was preforming good was awarded and the other was very disruptive and thus,
he has been removed from the class. During this event, the first who was doing well kept on
doing his work and was not interrupted. He worked well and completed his work on time. For
this, he was not rewarded by the teacher which should have been done. In order to make
lessen more interesting for the students, there must be use of white board. This white board

will be helping them in making class more interesting and showing examples to make them
understand the concepts easily.
2nd Reflection:
During the maths class there where only 2 students who were present in the class. From the
two one was very disruptive and he was walking away. As he was walking in the class the
teacher must have asked him to write on the white board and then encouraged him as well.
They were using offensive language in the class but the teacher was doing nothing to stop
them. The teacher must have demonstrated the way to deal with this kind of situation. He
must change his behaviour in the class and for the teacher there is not need to only rely on
staff members for this. And at the end the fellow staff member removed the students from the
class.

Feelings: What were you thinking and feeling at the time?
1st reflection:
I was feeling that the student was very good during the class and who completed the work on
time must have been rewarded for this work despite of the interruption. And the one who was
very disruptive should have not been removed from the class.
2nd Reflection:
In the second reflection as per my view the student who was very disruptive and who kept on
walking away should be told by the teacher to write on the white board so that he could
maintain discipline. But this did not happen as he was not asked to write on the white board
during the maths session. The other student who was using abusive language should be
handled with some strictness by the teacher who was teaching them maths. The other staff
member came to class and then they handled the students.,
Evaluation: Identify what was GOOD and what was BAD about the experience.
1st reflection:
Good- the student who completed his work and was not disturbed by the other one. So this is
the good experience during the class.
Bad- the student who has been disruptive during the maths class. And this is the bad
experience which I was having in the class.
2nd Reflection:
Good- the student who was disturbing and using abusive language was removed from the
class by supporting members of staff. And this is the good experience during the class.
Bad- the student who was using abusive language.

Analysis: What sense can you make out of the situation? What does it mean?
1st reflection:
Above situation means that there are many students who try to disturb the whole class during
their lessons but they must not be encouraged to do so and the one who are not been
disturbed by them must be very concentrated in their work.
2nd Reflection:
The above situation means that students who are using abusive language in the class room
must be kept out of the class only so that they would not get harmed or injured by anyone.
The teacher must be that much capable to handle the student who were using abusive
language in class but he was not and fellow staff member then interfere in the matter. And
they should encouraging the student on writing on the white board who are keep on walking
away.
Conclusion: What else could you have done? What should you perhaps not have
done?
1st reflection:
I should have encouraged the good student when he was not disturbed by the other
student in his/her work.
2nd Reflection:
I must know how to control the students and not take help of anyone else from the
fellow staff.
Action Plan: If it arose again, what would you do differently? How will you adapt
your practice in the light of this new understanding?
1st reflection:
In future if any such kind of situation raised I should be that much capable and
understanding that I can solve the problem. The student who was working very well
and completed his work should be rewarded. The use of white board to make lessons
more interesting must be used in near future.
2nd Reflection:
The one who was walking away must have been encouraged to write on the white
board as he was walking away. The student who was using abusive language must
have been removed from the class by me only and not by any other staff members.
