1REFLECTION ON CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT PLAN
Professionalism in the field of education is a crucial element in regulating educational
norms in a school. As the above chart suggests, professionalism in education is most viably
displayed in four different aspect, namely that of students, their families, in terms of coworkers
and the administration. Biesta (2015) mentions that there are fields which concern the most when
it comes to teacher judgement – qualification, socialization and subjectification. These three
aspects come into play when dealing with specific situations that require a professional approach.
As a professional educator, I have come across many instances where display of
professionalism led to successful maneuvering of a potentially harmful situation for the school. It
was in the beginning of the new academic year two seasons ago when a Hispanic child with
speech disorder was admitted to the school. The child was subjected to bullying by some of the
older children in the school by some of the older children in the school based on his ethnicity and
disability which was in direct violation of National Education Association’s Code of Ethics in
terms of bullying and inequality based on disability. I brought the issue to the notice of the
administration and awaited their instruction. An hour later, the parents of all the children
concerned were informed to attend a meeting the following day. I was also asked to be present.
The parents of the bullied student were entertained first. They were informed of the scenario and
offered apologies along with a course of action. The parents of the older children were informed
of the act as well, and implored to attend to their respective children’s behavioral attributes. The
children were also given a brief talk about what is wrong in the ways people behave with other
people. Afterwards, the older children apologized to the younger student and the parents
established a warm communicative bond amongst themselves as well. Overall, the issue was
resolved with utmost professionalism maintained in the workspace.
