Reflection on the Personality Assessment Tasks
For the personality assessment tests, I undertook temperament, emotional control, and
personality insight and personality resilience tests. These tasks had different objectives and
goals to enable me to explore and evaluate my strengths and weaknesses effectively
(Savickas, 2019). I would confess that some of the test results were expected, while others
were quite surprising. It was difficult accepting some of the test results. It was interesting
how succinct and precise some of the elements of the test were in providing guidelines to
facilitate personality growth and improvement.
The first test is of testing the temperament attribute through the Myers Briggs Test
Indicator, in which my personality type came to be ENTP – Extraversion Intuition Thinking
and Perceiving. The test indicated that I am highly creative and enjoy interacting with other
people. Practically, I am always a very optimistic person, a fact that was also revealed by the
Myers Briggs Test (Blodgett, 2017).
Further, my perception matched with some of the scores from the test, especially
about my thinking ability. I agree with the fact that I tend to remain calm during tense
moments that pose difficulty, and challenge. In most cases, I am often a quiet person with a
small circle of friends. I did not entirely agree with the introversion score as it was too low
and did not accurately portray my reality.
Subsequently, I undertook the Emotional Intelligence Test. The primary aim of the
test is to assess my emotional control ability. I did not agree with the score, that was 72
points. The score is interpreted to mean that I have a compelling emotional control and that I
am often flexible in my emotional approaches. The result is contrary to real life, where I am
not flexible in my emotional approaches. I easily get irritated by unpleasant scenarios.

On the other hand, the questionnaire contained some questions that pointed to the
positive facets of emotional control. However, I was a little disappointed with the fact that the
degree of emotions was neglected in the questionnaire. I realized from the scores that with
adequate practice, I could effectively control my emotions in different situational
circumstances. I learned that it is fine to lose temper, but it is necessary and fulfilling to
discuss amicably with the aggressor afterward.
Moreover, I engaged in personality insight testing underscored in the Big Five Factor
of personality test. The test scores revealed high points for agreeableness, extraversion,
conscientiousness, and openness (Oshio et al., 2018). It also indicated low scores on
emotional stability. I could not agree more with the score on extraversion as I enjoy
interacting with other people. Similarly, the score on conscientiousness was accurate as I tend
to be organized and detailed in my approaches. However, the score on openness would have
been a little bit lower. The rationale for the disagreement is that in real life, I am less open to
other people; I tend to keep to myself.
Lastly, I engaged in Belbin’s Personality Test to assess my resilience abilities. The
overall score indicated that I manifest medium personal resilience (Lynch et al., 2018). I am
in total agreement with my resilience scores. I cope with most life circumstances, albeit with
anxiety and tension, always afraid of any eventualities and other uncertainties. I got high
scores on coping with change and other supporting networks.
On the other contrary, I performed averagely on problem solving, self-confidence,
working with others, and organizing. I was surprised because, according to my life
experiences, I should have performed averagely on coping skills and highly on organizing
tasks. I noticed that I need to work most on personal resilience if I should progress and grow

in my career. This is because, in a professional position, I would have to make critical
decisions that require high levels of resilience.
In summary, the results of the four tests reveal a great potential within me that would
facilitate my career growth. I successfully noticed my strengths and weaknesses. My career
path demands a considerable level of extroversion, openness, critical thinking, and
organizational skills. The tests enabled me to realize critical areas that would require
improvement in the future. For instance, I should be in a position to practice and exercise
emotional control through anger management and behavioral coping strategies. This is
because of the diversity of people and variations of circumstances that surround the
professional practice. Hence, for effective practice and proper decision making, emotional
control is vital.
Residential Reflective Writing and Application of Personality Assessment
In this section, I would critically reflect on the residential trip to Crosswhite Mill
Kendal. The focus of the essay will be on incidents that transpired during the trip as well as
critical takeaways necessary for professional development. According to Razieh et al. (2018),
reflection helps people to critically evaluate their performance and integrate their thoughts
and actions when faced with challenging circumstances. The reality of reflection is that it
enables one to deduce areas of weakness and strengths that can be leveraged for growth.
Thus, reflection is critical in decision making and problem-solving situations. The experience
during the trip allowed me to appreciate practical learning. I noticed that there is a big
difference between theoretical and practical learning.
During the trip, students got assigned to different tasks in teams. Our team was
involved in Number Cruncher as an activity. The task required that we could touch all the

numbered cards with hands. The cards had to be touched in a sequential manner starting from
zero to twenty-four within thirty seconds. Given the time limit, all five people in our team
had to get involved. I took the leadership role to delegate roles and duties to all the team
members to be able to beat the deadline successfully. I took the opportunity to showcase my
leadership qualities and to motivate the team to get the work done.
In professional practice, the leaders are always looked upon to provide a sense of
direction, purpose, and organization. I led the team effectively and improved my skills greatly
during the process. During the task, I majorly acted in the best interest of my team members
seeking to incorporate them in the decision making process. As such, they felt good and
performed better in a motivated manner. Previously I had a challenge making decisions,
especially when multiple tasks are involved. Upon completion of the task, I was more
confident to make decisions even in difficult times.
Teamwork was apparent during the trip on many occasions. My perspective about
teamwork is a group of people working together towards a common purpose and goal.
Effective teams involve the subordination of individual interests and opinions to forge a
common front with other group members (Shaw, 2011). Reflecting on the personal
assessment test, I scored highly in teamwork, a feat that was manifested during the trip. I was
taking all the views of the team members into consideration and arriving at the best decision
amicably. Involving all the team members in the decision-making process promoted
individual ownership and responsibility towards the outcome.
Further, as was noted from the personality assessment, my social interaction scores
were impressive. The skills also became apparent while interacting with the team members to
achieve a common objective. Additionally, I can attribute excellent communication skills to

the success of the team. During professional practice, communication is always an essential
factor. Effective communication is necessary to reduce the amount of time and errors that
may arise in the team process. The feedback from my team members indicated that I
performed well at social interaction during the trip. As such, the trip not only helped me to
improve my communication skills and leadership skills but also to practice techniques
otherwise learned theoretically.
The residential experience was worthwhile and helped a lot in the identification of
skills and assessment competencies. I got a chance to explore myself better and to gain a
better understanding of social interaction in the workplace. These skills will be precious in
the future while engaging in both the business environment and even for management roles. I
noticed that it could be straightforward to plan tasks theoretically. However, in real-life
execution of tasks can be very complex and mind-boggling an issue that can easily trigger
emotions. I realized that it is crucial to exercise emotional control, especially in the face of
divergent opinions from team members. The uniqueness of people in a work environment
requires substantial emotional control and personal resilience due to work pressures (Karimi
et al., 2017).
The experience of residential training is relatable to Belbin’s theory. According to
theory, individuals in teams often must realize their strengths to foster effective
communication between leaders and followers. Personal understanding was also achieved by
allowing each team member to engage in the personality assessment task (Simeunovic et al.,
2017). The task enabled all team members to grab tasks according to their abilities. Further, it
allowed them to seek help with their weaknesses by relating to others within the team.
Importantly was also the ability of team members to provide feedback after the activities. The
feedback enabled one to get a practice review of their abilities (Jiang, 2017). The feedback is

useful for self-improvement and interaction with other team members. Given the lessons and
experiences encountered during the residential activities and the personality assessment tests,
I would be a better person at the workplace in the future.
In summary, reflecting through the activities ranging from the personality assessment
test and the residential activity, I realize that I got an excellent opportunity to learn and
develop as an individual. It is not easy to appreciate theoretical knowledge without practical
experience. Similarly, translating the theories from class into practice can be daunting. The
circle of learning is essential to appreciate professional requirements and practice ethics. The
practice environment embodies numerous challenges that require preparedness. It is essential
to undertake reflection on different tasks for both self-improvements. The realization of
personal strengths helps one to leverage strong abilities to achieve desirable results. It is
noted that personality attributes and reflection are essential even in professional practice.
They enable easy handling of differences at work to harness individual strengths for unity of
purpose.
