INTRODUCTION
Reflection revolves around gaining understanding of one’s thinking process and gaining
awareness about the learning process (Edwards, 2020). The process of reflection is one of the
most important tasks when it comes to performance improvement in healthcare sector. This is
because healthcare is involves dealing with patients with different medical history, cultural
backgrounds and response to treatment. It is important for healthcare professionals to reflect on
medical practices while treating various patients. This is because reflection assists in
understanding areas of improvement in medical practices and ways to remove such gaps to
ensure that every patient gains effective medical treatment. The reflection process is helps in
identification of the process used by medical work about the process of caregiving during
experience with the patient. The present report uses the Rolfe’s reflective model to conduct
reflection which is based on experience with treating elderly patients in the hospital ward. This
involves identification of achievements, actions, and others responses during the experience. In
addition to this basis of taking particular actions during the experience are determined an
identification actions for the betterment of the situations along with new understanding of the
experience are part of the Rolfe’s reflective model.
MAIN BODY
Rolfe’s reflective model
Reflective model are used as guidelines which initiate structured process of completing a
reflection (Elsaadouny and et. al., 2020). The usage of reflective model provides an individual
the ability to reflect on one’s actions and start the procedure of perpetual improvement by
providing step by step guidelines. I have used Rolfe’s reflective model in order to effectively
reflect on my experience of supporting patients. As per the Rolfe’s reflective model, this
reflective model begins with the introduction of the issue faced by an individual, afterwards
observations about the issue are made and the reflective model is concluded with changes made
for the future which would make improvements (Bacevich, 2021). This reflective model will
help me identify my thinking process during the experience and actions for betterments. In
addition to this I will be able to understand the effect of my personal believes and values on
others as well as support provided to patient. The Rolfe’s reflective model is provided below:

What? : I was tasked with supporting elderly patients in the hospital. In addition to this I and
my team participated in group clinical supervision with my lectures about the experience of
supporting patients in the hospital. Supervision refers to the systematized procedure in which the
aim is to ensure that professional assistance to learner (Bifarin, O. and Stonehouse, 2017). This
involves regular discussion with seniors and lecturers with experience in the field to enhance
autonomous decision making with the help of reflection based tasks and analysis of medical
practices of the learner. Thee main purpose of supervision is to help the learner become producer
of knowledge instead of consumer of knowledge by engaging them in reflective practice and
analytical discussion under the assistance of experienced supervisors. Group clinical supervision
is described as the process under which participating members are enabled to reflect upon their
work in a group setting. Individuals participating in group clinical supervision share experience
and knowledge with the aim of increasing skills and capabilities of each member of the group
(Chang, Mudry and Hiseler, 2020).
I believe that enhancement in problem solving is one of the main reason behind involving
in group clinical supervision is that it increases problem solving skills and helps each individual
reflect on their practices with the help of group expertise. Group clinical supervision enables
participants to work with individuals with different backgrounds, experience level and
understand different perspective of practitioners (Fowler, 2019).
During my experience in taking care of the elderly patients, my main focus on was
ensuring that the patient is given adequate care so that they make smooth recovery. It is one of
the main duties of my profession to put the interests of service users at the top priority. I
communicated with the senior professionals, service users and family members of the service
about the medical conditions and medical treatment. This helped me ensure that family members
and patients have full knowledge about their medical situation and effect of medical treatment
and are not lost in complicated medical terminology. In addition to this I communicated with the
family of the service user to gain information about their medical history, emotional state of the
service user and their family so that the senior professionals have complete information about the
patient’s medical and their family’s emotional state. Apart from this, my decisions related to the
caregiving to the patients include regularly checking physical health of the patient,
administrating medications and assessing their medical condition on a daily basis during their
treatment at the hospital. These actions were influenced by my personal belief that it is extremely
