1REFLECTIVE REPORT
Introduction
Reflection is an important and effective aspect of health and social care professionals
as with the help of reflection they could review their practice and identify the loopholes so
that they could improve their professional skills (Lestander, Lehto and Engström 2016).
Similarly there are 6 themes that helps nursing professionals in different aspect so that they
could develop ethical practice, professional values, health and safety decisions, promotes
diversity and physical and mental health and are aware of the information technology to be
aware of the modern resources to make the care process effective.
Therefore, in this reflective paper, I would be discussing about the 6 practice themes
that has helped me to improve my care practice and helped me to achieve my PDP that I
prepared on the basis of the weaknesses and threats of my personal SWOT analysis. Hence,
thorugh this I would be able to discuss the importance of the targets that I set with my PDP
and SWOT reflections and the way I was able to overcome the barriers and achieve my goals.
Application of 6 practice themes
1. Laws, regulations and ethical practices
This is the first and of primary importance as it helps the nursing professionals to
understand their working responsibilities, their duty, and importance of teamwork and risk
management (Bloomfield and Pegram 2014). Further, it also requires the nursing
professionals to develop personal development plan so that they could develop skills,
professional values and ability to work independently in the care process. I was aware of
these aspects and its importance for making my professional practice ethically and lawfully
correct. As per de Guzman et al. (2014), application of this lawful and ethical aspect in care
process helps the nursing professionals to maintain equity and diversity in the process and a
holistic care is ensured for the patients. My strengths such as ability to listen, organised and

effective communication skills and ability to conduct the process patiently helped me to
understand the processes of healthcare sector immediately and hence, I was able to be aware
of this practice theme by communicating to my senior nursing professionals. Hence, my set
targets in PDP helped me to develop effective communication within the facility and
understand the ethical considerations which are required for the healthcare professionals in
care scenario.
2. Professional values, attitude and behaviour
This practice theme requires the nursing professionals to understand their own values,
beliefs and attitudes that impact their work and then explore others beliefs and ideas so that
positive working environment could be developed (Jones et al. 2014). Besides this, it also
focuses on the application of person centred and family centred care so that health safety and
wellbeing of each community could be achieved. Therefore, it was important for me to
develop personal traits and attitude so that I could apply these aspects in my care process. I
also developed PDP and mentioned about my short term goals and medium term goals so that
I could understand the nuances of the process and could increase my ability to manage
difficult situations with less stressful ways. Hence, my strengths of patients and effective
communication skills helped me to achieve this skill. Further it was also important for my
future goals in working with children with disabilities (Matziou et al. 2014). Hence, for my
future opportunities, overcoming this barrier was an important aspect.
3. Health, safety and safeguarding
This aspect of practice skills mentions about the responsibility of the nursing
professionals to understand the importance of health and wellbeing of nursing professionals,
patients and other visitors within the hospital premise and their responsibility of recording
and reporting so that principles of the healthcare process could be complied with (Msimanga
