REFLECTIVE REPORT ON THE BENEFITS OF THE MODULE 2
Reflective Report on the Benefits of the Module
Throughout the semester, this module has developed my knowledge and understanding of
independent work experience, thus acting as an opportunity for academic and personal
development. The module's main gain was to aid students to analyze and reflect upon the various
learning styles critically, plan on how each student can develop them, evaluate one’s strengths
and weaknesses, and learn from the experience. Thus, it instills the knowledge and skills of
organizational structures, making sense of learning through self-awareness, formulating
curriculum vitae that are crucial credentials for job applications, as well understanding various
theories of learning such as Kolb's theory. Therefore, this paper will vividly provide a reflective
report about how the learning of this module has helped me develop myself both academically
and in terms of employability.
From the module’s readings, various skills were taught and these skills such as traditional
intellectual skills, personal attributes, personal and critical skills, and knowledge about how an
organization works, are vital to me as a student and also relate to my employability as a graduate.
Commencing on the traditional intellectual skills, I can critically evaluate discussions with facts
and evidence. Thus, I can argue logically by applying the skills into practice, approach both
quantitatively and qualitatively contemporary concerns, as well as challenge some of the
assumptions that are not based on facts. Academically, these skills have helped have a good
relationship with my fellow course mates as I frequently present useful arguments. Also, the
traditional intellectual skills help to increase the chances of acquiring job opportunities as I can
appropriately give my logical reasoning. This logical reasoning empowers societies to promote
their knowledge, manage their uses, as well as benefit from its commercial exploitation (Smith,

2016; Amin & Hasbullah, 2018). The personal and critical skills have helped academically by
instilling the knowledge of excellent communication. As a student, excellent communication as
helped me manage my learning environment since I can avoid or solve problems that may lead to
disagreement. In terms of employability, personal and critical skills can help me work
appropriately with others by handling and managing oneself (Arnedillo-Sanchez & Tseloudi,
2017). Besides, this can be a factor of promotion as a leader in workplace situations. The
personal attributes that I learned from this module readings have helped me acquire the
knowledge on how to improve my self-reliance skills. Thus, self-reliance skills have improved
my adaptability, flexibility, reliability, and resilience in nature. Specifically, being adaptable
means that I can easily change from one work environment to another. Thus, this skill can
improve my employability as I can easily shift from any work environment so quickly (Rust &
Froud, 2016). Finally, from the module, I have accessed the knowledge of how organizations
work through understanding their various structures, programs, as well as their aims and
objectives. Gaining this knowledge, I can keenly evaluate the appraisal procedures of my
proposed workplace that acts as a tool for increasing one's productivity in the workplace
environment (Vidyullatha, Usha & Reddy, 2016). Nevertheless, each of the four skills is crucial
to work experience, but one should consider the central type of work that one is willing to do.
However, consideration, such as gaining knowledge on how organizations work through a
critical evaluation procedure, improves one’s performance.
Throughout the module's unit of making sense of learning through self-awareness, I have
gained knowledge on the various ways to learn. Notably, it is through understanding the way we
prefer to learn that we quickly develop and practice different ways of learning and hence
becoming active learners (Jackson, 2017). From the learning theory and styles model of Kolb

that was formulated in 1984, I have learned that the learning theory works on two levels, i.e.,
four separate learning styles and a four-stage cycle of learning (Tomkins & Ulus, 2016).
Academically, I have gained insights that the active experimentation stage simply involves
planning or instead practicing what one has learned. On the other hand, the concrete experience
stage consists of the art of having an experience, and the reflective observation stage consists of
the art of reviewing or reflecting on the background, as well as the abstract conceptualization
stage that generally concludes the learning experience. This learning process can help me
understand situations in workplaces since I can face a new experience or circumstance with
much ease. I can do this by reflecting on the experience to understand any hidden inconsistencies
between understanding and experience, reflect the status to give rise to a new idea, and finally
apply the concept to the entire society. Thus, as Kolbs states that learning process is a necessary
process with each stage being supportive, then it makes it easy for me as a student to enter the
cycle at any stage and follow the logical sequence (Schultz, McEwen & Griffiths, 2016; Barker,
Lencucha & Anderson, 2016). Thus, the fact Kolb outlines that the various factors that influence
a person's preferred style, such as the basic cognitive structure of the individual, social
environment, and educational experiences, create awareness to me, thus improving my
employability.
Besides, this module has helped me gains insights on how to go about self-assessment.
Academically, through the practices that the educator emphasized to us, I can effectively manage
myself with no assistance from my educator. In a classroom environment, I have been able to
adapt to the various range of academic skills such as analysis and synthesis and manage my time
well through meeting the assignment deadlines and get to classes on time. This will also help my
employability as I will get to workplace interviews and appointments on time (Kyoung, Lattuca
