Reflective Response: Examining Adani Groundwater Plan and its Approval

Reflective response

The article is based on the decision of Melissa Price, on the approval of Adani’s ground water
plan. The article shows that the water management plan was extremely unreliable; it is the result
of the poor modelling which was full of errors and false assumptions. It is held that the used
modelling was not suitable and sufficient to reduce impacts to protected environment. This
further, underpinned the toll on bore water on which farmers depend. With more pressure from
cabinet colleagues, finally MS Price approved to the ground water management plan of Adani.
Politics also played a main role in the overall plan, it can be said that there was immense delay in
this situation, but with more criticism faced by Adani, plans were revisited (Long and Slezak,
2019). However, still large improvements are to be made in the plan, as the climate concern will
grow, its commercial viability will be in question.
My reaction to the full story is shocking; it is because the ground water related plan was
dramatically impacting the environment and the bore water on which farmers rely on. However,
the approach of Adani was so unreliable and according to him it was out of scope. According to
me, there was so much of delay, and after so much of pressure, improvements were made. In my
point of view, several granting of approvals are still required to be made from the Queensland
Government to make further improvements, otherwise the growing climatic change can have a
drastic impact.
