CLIMATE CHANGES IN CANADA AND ITS POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE EFFECTS
INTRODUCTION
Climate change is a fluctuation in the statistical climate properties system which persists
for so many decades usually 30 years. Climate change can be a result of human activities like
burning of fossil fuels ( non-renewable sources of energy) and cutting of trees without planting
new ones to replace the already cut ones. Other causes include volcanoes, change in the radiation
of the sun and other weather-related causes like cyclones and tornadoes (Pawson, 2013). Climate
always changes due to the higher concentration of greenhouse gases like carbon (IV) oxide,
methane, nitrous oxide, chlorofluorocarbons and many others in the atmosphere. Just like in most
countries in the world, Canada also experiences climate change and the effects of climate change
in Canada has some dire consequence and also some good effects.
The average temperatures in the country have already increased by about 1.70C since the
year 1948. The continued increase in the temperature in the country at higher latitude is
anticipated in all scenarios in future changes in climate. Together with increased rainfall and
temperature, the country is experiencing rising sea levels (Dall, 2017). Climate change in Canada
results in ocean acidification and warmer water and more of ocean acidification is still
anticipated in the country (Sambaraju, 2012). Canada has experienced a higher rate of climate
warming as compared to other most parts of the world, especially is the far west and north of the
country like Nunavut. Warming in the country has been highly pronounced during the springtime
and winter. This results in several major effects across the country like melting of ice in the
