INTRODUCTIONRegional planning refers to as planning for efficient placement of the land use activitiesand infrastructure and organizing and settling large areas of land for an individual or city andtown. The assignment starts with identifying key issues like regional and metropolitan planningframework of EU in week 5 and different issues emerging from regional housing in week 7.Further it will discuss current example discussed in the media (Jensen, Mandeville andKarunaratne, 2017). At last a critical analysis of the problem and key ideas and discussionsdeveloped in the discussions.MAIN BODYWeek 6Key issuesThe main issues highlighted in this week creation of Turin Metro Area which focused onshift from a company town to a metropolitan area. This measure was taken in order to recoverthe old industrial zones and poor and neglect urban areas. For managing this the the governmentof European Union has created many organizations which are accountable for starting neweconomic development process in the absence of government like Turin InternationalAssociation, Torino Wireless and many others (Damborg, Danson and Halkier, 2017). Fordeveloping the area it has started strategic planning in three phases. In first it has to adapt anintegrated strategic plan for year 2000- 2005. in the second stage from 2006- 2015 it hasdeveloped knowledge for future. And in third stage that is 2015- 2025 which aims attransforming Turin into a city of opportunity to handle issues like investment, global economicrestructuring, reduced public spendings and many other related issues.Current exampleThe current examples of EU intervention recovery of disused sites, renewal of distressedareas like Mirafiori Nord, some measures against long term employment and many others. Thisstrategy also led to economic development and access to employment opportunities. It is becauseof the reason that this project created many job opportunities for the local people residing at thenearby place of the project (Lichfield, Kettle and Whitbread, 2016). Also this leads to economicdevelopment of the country because more job opportunities leads to addition in the economicoutput of the country which is beneficial for the country.
