thinking skills have also helped me in responding to challenging clinical situations in a timely
manner.

A patient Focused Approach to Care
Involving a patient in decision-making process regarding their health is important in realizing
better health outcomes through patient satisfaction. I remember a situation in the past when a
patient preferred medicine to injections. I had told him that injections worked faster but her
choice and decision was to take medicine instead. I had to respect her choice because after all,
the end result was the same for either intervention. I gave her medicine instead of injections and
she healed after finishing her dosage. She was satisfied with the care that I had given. I believe
that my actions were guided by nursing standards of practice and code of ethics that require a
nurse to engage in therapeutic and professional relationships with their patient. I did this by
telling the patient the benefits of interventions and letting her decide. A patient-centered care
improves patient satisfaction and healthcare outcomes.
A Positive Approach to Change and Diversity
Healthcare practitioners must have a positive attitude toward change and diversity. Through
change and diversity in healthcare, better patient outcomes are realized and patients become
more satisfied with care. Hospitals receive patients from diverse backgrounds and all these
patients deserve the best care without any form of discrimination. Nurses must also embrace
changes in the workplace and continue providing optimal care. I remember a situation when I
had to move to a partnering hospital during my placement. Their organization culture was a little
different and it took me time to adapt. They were also receiving a lot of patients from minority
groups. I was tasked with providing care for these people despite their fear of discrimination. I
embraced this form of diversity positively and in most cases, my patients were satisfied and the
