1a.1
The main role of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) is to set the standard
for registration, give approval to the training and education programs and maintain the record of
those individuals who have successfully completed the training program. Furthermore, with an
aim to be registered as the biomedical scientist in HCPC, an individual has to complete IBMS
registration training portfolio (Ridley, 2015). On completing the training portfolio, an individual
will be awarded with IBMS certificate of competency. On receiving the given certificate, an
individual will be consider as capable for HCPC registration.
CPA is the clinical pathology accreditation which basically set the standards for the
medical lab.
Following are the principle of accreditation system for pathology laboratory in UK
 The main purpose of laboratory accreditation is to assess competency of the laboratories
which are functioning in UK.
 To make sure that an individual follows all the laboratory waste disposal policies in an
effective way
With regard to the legal requirement, I have examined that the collected human sample
are stored in refrigerator. Here, the human sample are being disposed at the disposal site.
However, before doing this the obtained waste are decontaminated. This is done with an aim to
reduce the risk of infection due to human waste.

Equal opportunity is the right in which an individual is not being discriminated on the
ground of age, caste, sexuality and religion.
Being the line manager of firm, I behave in a non-discriminatory manner. Herein, I will
carry out my effort with regard to give each individual an equal opportunity for getting the
decision about the firm (Jee, Schafheutle and Noyce, 2016).

Data Protection Act 1998 is the legislation which make sure that the personal information
of the individual will be protected.

Here, in my laboratory all the confidential information about the patients is stored at
computer which is protected through password. However, the coordinator of the laboratory have
the access to the respective system. Here, its main role is to take sample from the patients,
perform test and feed the result of the same in computer. I have access the confidential patient
information through the coordinator of laboratory only.
I will strictly say no to my friend if he/she will ask me to look up the result of laboratory
test with an aim to save his/her time to meet with GP. In this regard, I will put forward the rules
and regulations of laboratory (Jee, Schafheutle and Noyce, 2016). However, in the other
circumstance when patients came into my chamber and asked for the copy of result I will comply
with different type of practice. Herein, at first I would tell the respective person with respect to
take the permission of the same from the individual under which it is undergoing the treatment.
If person will give permission then I will provide copy of result to the patient.

The main aim of professional code of conduct is to set standard for the individual which
are being associated with the specific profession. This will enable them to deliver high quality
services to the patients.

The coordinator of the laboratory is being consider as accountable for reporting the
incident and problem in my training laboratory. In the circumstance, when I do not have any
information about the specimen which porter have given to me, I will direct my effort in terms of
asking about the same from him only. Through this way, I will resolve my problem.

Here, the sample such as blood test is being regarded as urgent. This is because, of the
property of blood wherein it gets clotted so early. It is due to the presence of given aspect,
respective person will have to urgent test upon it. The normal operating hour of my laboratory is
8:00 Am to 8:00 PM. In the laboratory where I am taking training, the pattern of workload totally
depends upon the number of patients whose test are urgent (Onofrey, Papademetris and Staib,
2015). Here, with an aim to manage the workload effectively, my firm make use of scheduling
wherein it set targets with regard to each sample testing.

The biomedical scientist manage fitness to practice by complying with all the rules and
regulations which are related with the given field. Furthermore, the laboratory health and safety
policy helps me in protecting my personal well-being and fitness to practice. This is because, the
given policy provides guidance to the individual and thus help it with regard to accomplish the
work effectively.
The main purpose of the European Working Time Directive is to save workers from
being exploited by their employers. Herein, it tends to set the maximum working hours for all the
individual which are associated with different field, hence in the case of pathology also. I comply
with the practice of self directed learning on daily basis. In this regard, I perform review of my
skills on daily basis. Thus, on the basis of this I set my direction for improving the different type
of skills (Ridley, 2015).

There are number of departments in hospital identified which require assistance from
laboratory. It consists of blood bank department, Esoteric department and clinical department
etc. Here, with an aim to interact with blood bank department I tend to take help from the tool
such as email. I will give my feedbacks to the department regarding all the thing which I observe
during my training schedule. It is through this way only I will give my contribution in the team
working efforts.

I have worked in different area of laboratory. It consists of clinical biochemistry and
immunology and hematopathology etc. Here, in clinical biochemistry and immunology my main
work is to do testing for enzymes, antibodies and proteins etc. In the similar way, in
hematopathology section my main work is to microscopic review. I have encountered with
number of people in the given section wherein their main role is to perform the test and produce
result for the same in an effective way (Robson and et.al., 2013).

There are number of means are assessed with the help of which assembled information
are disseminated to the other people. It consists of email and telephone etc. I have conducted the

review of my own laboratory and on doing this I have analysed different terms which are
frequently used in the laboratory. The terms consist of Anabolic Steroid and anastomosis etc.
Here, Anabolic Steroid is the group of synthetic steroid hormones which basically promotes the
tissue growth. Likewise, anastomosis is the stance which depicts the connection between two
different blood vessels ( Cianciolo and et.al., 2013).
For example, in order to deal with the circumstance wherein I will receive telephone call
from someone who wants to speak to colleague in laboratory which is indulged in certain type of
work I will perform in the following manner. Herein, at first I will ask to respective person
regrading the message which it wants to give to the person.

As per me, the most effective way to engage with service user is to communicate with
them regularly. This is because, through this way the individual can assess the views and
opinions of its patients and accordingly they can judge that whether the organization is going on
to the right direction or not in terms of service delivery process.

In Bio chemical laboratories, samples of urine are collected in urine container cups which
comes in different shapes and sizes with protector lids. For blood samples, these are collected in
Vacutainer tubes which need to be stored at specific temperature.
There are different types of specimen which laboratory receives and some of them
includes random specimen, first morning specimen, timed collection specimen, pediatric
specimen, etc.
a) If the leakage is done in which the container is received then it is necessary to dispose
the bag and put the rest of the specimen in new container with the help of syringe or pipette.
b) If the leakage is done on laboratory work surface then the disposable gloves should be
worn and the leakage should be covered with the paper towels. These towels should be kept for
more than 30 minutes. Then the workplace need to be clean with disinfectant (Beake and
Liskiewicz, 2013).
c) If the specimen is incorrectly or inadequately labelled then lab assistant should confirm
the same with the doctor or the resident from which the test is received. If physican is not able to
reach and not able to correct the problem then he should notify the director of clinical operations.

Blood tests and urine tests are the two major routinely pathological conditions which are
routinely diagnosed. The result of the same given at necessary time to the patient or clinic from
the same has received.
The test so performed as a physician will give patients positive results regarding the test
so conducted.
Qualitative and quantitative techniques have been effectively taken into consideration at
the time of having tests. Adequate measurement of tests, quality equipments are effectively used
so that the best of the results can be generated. Qualitative tests will be used in identifying
fractures and different surgical tests. On the other hand, quantitative tests, will be used to see the
sugar level blood tests and different others (Włodarczyk-Biegun and et.al., 2014).

As a physician, there are varied sections in field of biochemistry like liver functions test,
hormones, proteins, blood grouping etc. I have received different training as a biochemical
surgeon which has enhanced my skills so that I will be able to give my best for future time being.
Laboratory training officer has a key role to play in order to give necessary training to
individual so that one can achieve their goals and objectives significantly. Further, by giving
them adequate knowledge regarding various terms of biochemical, training officer can help
person in growth and development (Hoffman, 2012).

Infection can be caused due to any abnormal condition caused by microbe such as
bacteria or virus which affects some part of the body. These infections can form at any part of
the body and one has to take proper action for the same.
The infection so caused need to be proactively checked so that person who is suffering
can recover within specific time period. The problem is severe and physician should give
necessary medicines and antiseptics so that one can get rid of same.
In training, I have come to know different tests and through systematic analyse of
calculations, I have taken necessary decisions. From the above chart, it is evident that the units of
RBC in body need to be in between 3.80-5.10. therefore, for any person the unit lies in the same
is safe.

I have thoroughly prepared myself for the project and dissertation. In this regard, I have
directed my efforts in terms of reading different books and journals. Hence, it is through this way
only I have improved my knowledge and understanding regarding the selected topic under study.
During the training, I have been given work to test the urine sample for one of the patients in
order to diagnose sugar level. I have performed my this work very effectively and hence given an
effective result for the same (Rangayyan, 2015).
In addition to this, evidence based practice is the process of taking the decision about
patients care on the basis of patients value, best research evidence and clinical expertise. For
example, I have worked in urine testing discipline in which I have taken help from the number of
individual before reaching on to some specific decision.
2b.2
I will give my suggestion as well as recommendation in number of task which is being
carried out within laboratory. It is through this way only, I will apply my knowledge and skill to
the work. The similar type of technique is also being used by me with an aim to apply my IT
knowledge and skill.

One day there is a most drastic thing have happened in the laboratory where I am taking
training. Here, I have examined that the laboratory lacked the proper management regarding the
collection of sample. Due to this, on one day collected sample of two different patients have
interchanged. Due to this, wrong medication were given to the respective patients. The main
reason behind the occurrence of respective incident would be proper coding of all the sample. In
order to avoid the given situation in the future, efforts need to be made by individual with regard
to assign code of each sample. In the assigned of code, the name of patients as well as doctors
should be written to whom which respective person is undergoing the treatment (Minssen, 2016).

Keeping in consideration the health and safety issues different methodologies are adopted
by the pathology laboratory. Two most wide;y used methods are near patient testing and non
invasive techniques. Near patient testing refers to the process of diagnosing patient's disease at
the point where it is being treated and cured and Non invasive method referred to the technique

in which there is no connection build between specimen and equipment used for diagnosis and
treatment. Examples of both are blood glucose meter and radiation therapy respectively.

Laboratory notebooks are basic mean for keeping permanent record of details for an
individual's day to day research which he has taken in laboratory or office. It also includes the
date and time of the each record and also the initials which persons makes at the time of
recording the new entries. It also involves sketches of the experimental layout, circuit diagrams,
etc.
Error which happened in laboratories are related with the transferring of acids from one
point to another. Some times tag were not there so it used to get mixed. This problem was
overcome by posing proper label on same (Onofrey, Papademetris and Staib, 2015).
For keeping the record of data, prior registers were made which comprises genuine entry
of the chemical or product received. Further, prior data was saved in computer records as well so
that one can use and seer the information the time they require.

Internal quality control helped in assuring the preservation of samples and chemicals to
avoid contamination from the same however external quality assurance focused on assuring the
safe procedures and standard measures of testing.
My department effectively participated in external quality assurance schemes as it
involved in NQAAP and laboratory quality cycle as well (Onofrey, Papademetris and Staib,
2015). This helped in effectively analysing the issues faced and participating in government
issues involved for the same. It helped in enhancing responsiveness and relevance of day to day
operations.

Vertical quality audit for the laboratory includes identifying trained operator- report- QC
valid-calculation check-locate material-identifying equipment-testing- reporting- documenting.
Case conferences is useful for the complex or relevantly new sample which helps in
defining new problems thus setting new standards of results while multi-disciplinary team review
helps in attaining critical review for the result while developing detailed results.

I undertook a detailed analysis of lab testing which helped in understanding the
procedures of testing and quality process. I participated in the function which brushed up my
theoretical and practical knowledge.

Training for bio-medical students will be only valid if they are passed out from any
recognized university. Further, they must have appropriate academic qualification. Letter head
from college will be considered as proof for the same that the individual is liable for training.

Individual develop different skills like clinical diagnostic skills, teaching skills,
managerial skills, research capability skills, etc. These skills so developed can be applied across
pathology.
Further, cardiologist can make new changes in the machines or different equipments in
order to have proper treatment for patients (Beake and Liskiewicz, 2013).

Public health act, 196, health and safety act 1974, health and safety regulations, etc. are
some which is prevailing in UK and organizations have to bide the same for proper functioning.
Laboratory design and construction plays a crucial role in order to ensure laboratories and
also the associated areas which are safe to work and visit.
Laboratory includes teaching or learning, research, clinical or diagnostic testing and
analysis. I have proper information relating to hazards and related risks which are present.
Further, supervision and safety measures are implemented significantly.
There exist different types of hazards which exist in factory and some of them include
chemical hazards, biological hazards, physical hazards, etc. Through implementing waste
management techniques, these hazards can be disposed.
With the sound of fire alarm, the urgent test need to be stopped at the same time and I
will let whole the staff who working in the laboratory to get out of the premises.
