Advantages to promote from within:
Some of the advantages of the promotion which can be derived from the case study of the
CH2M HILL: Reinventing Organizational Careers, are discussed below:
 Career development opportunities-Career development opportunities are one of the
most common advantages of promoting from within the workplace.
 Growth of the organization-If employees get career development opportunities they
will be able to enhance their productivity, which will in turn boost the growth of the
organization (Newman 2013).
The evidence of these advantages can be observed from the growth opportunities
received by Jan Walstrom which in turn aided in the growth of the organization
(Newman 2013).
Disadvantage to promote from within:
The disadvantages derived from the study of the case research of CH2M HILL:
Reinventing Organizational Careers are stated below:
 Difficulty in crossing over different business groups- sometime the act of promoting
from within will create obstacles in the crossing over of different business
organizations.
 Less scope for employee orientation and socializing- sometime the act of promoting
from within gives less chances for the orientation of employees and also for the
socialization of the workers of all ranks and levels (Newman 2013).
