Religion has been an important part of the society for centuries. Even though it cannot be
observed holding the powerful position the way it used to before scientific revolution, it still
holds a significant position in the human society. Several philosophers and priest have shown
ways to understand human life through various perceptions (Johnstone 98). One of the
immensely influential personalities was Thomas Aquinas who has presented the world with his
perspective of viewing the world in a unique manner. The paper aims to discuss one of his well-
recognized works, the Just War theory and the way it has helped me learn something meaningful.
The paper involves one of the additional discussions on the ten Ox herding pictures. The paper
will discuss one key term that I have learnt from the religion that I was previously unaware.
Also, the way these teaching has helped me in my personal life will be discussed in the paper and
the way I implement the learning.
Philosopher and theologian St. Thomas Aquinas was a Dominican priest as well as
scriptural theologian. He was a great influential personality who developed his own conclusion
from the Aristotelian premises prominently the metaphysics of personality, providence and
creation (Ginther 213). He is the creator of the Just war theory. It has become the foundation of
most Christian thought in regard to morality sanctioned violence on the basis of compromise.
The just war theory provides with the explanation of the ways and the reasons war are fought.
The justification can be both historical and theoretical. While the theoretical aspect is concerned
with ethically justifying war and the forms that warfare may or may not occur, the historical
aspect deals with the historical body of rules or agreements that have applied in several wars
across the ages (Te Velde 412). According to Aquinas, even though it may seem that all war is
sinful, it is important for the military defense to keep evil things from happening. To him, war
can be justified if it meets three conditions. They are: if it is approved by a proper authority, it is
