Water Distribution 2
Introduction
Management of water distribution has become a major priority in the modern-day world
especially due to the rapidly growing population in urban centres and the ever-changing climatic
conditions. The rapidly increasing population requires an adequate supply of clean water for
sustenance. On the other hand, prevailing climatic conditions determine water adequacy. To
effectively manage water distribution systems for sustainability and dependence, there is a need
for remodelling and proper maintenance of the already existing systems. A software known as
EPANET is therefore used. This software studies the movements and components of drinking
water in a distribution system.
Background
EPANET software is the most common device used in determining water distribution
networks. It accurately determines movements and components of water by designing water
samples within the distribution system. These are carried out by modelling water quality through
the determination of potential contaminants and improving water quality and making sure they
supplied to consumers in safe and resilient(Clarke, 2015). This tool also determines the time
taken by water through a system, modelling reactions that occur both chemically and biologically
and simulating operational data. These operations are carried out by the EPANET software
operational tool kit(Freas & Munerva, 2014).
Significance
Significantly, EPANET software helps in the maintenance and improvement of water supply
system through pipes to end-users. Application of EPANET software in simulating water
