MACHANICS OF SOLID2Torsion: introduction 2.0Torsion can be stated as a term when is applied when an applied torque can twist anobject. Newton meters (Nm) is the expression. In sections which is perpendicular to thetorque axis, the shear stress which is the resultant force in the particular section isperpendicular with regards to radius.Taking into consideration the uniform section of the shafts, the torque is:Where:T = torque which is applied or the moment which is related to the torsion in unit of Nm.(tau) = maximum shear stress which is in the outer surface.JT = for the section the torsion constant. It is very much equal to the moment of the secondarea Jz = Jz with aspect to twisting which is mainly about the z axis.r = distance between the farthest point towards the section and rotational axis.Θ (omega) = is the radians twist of the angle.G = shear modulus, which can also be referred to as modulus of rigidity and is given usuallyin gigapascals (GPa).The product JT G = Torsional rigidity wTTorque can be referred to as a momentum which mainly act about the members ofthe longitudinal axis, and when the torque is applied it mainly causes in deformation in themembers which is along the longitudinal axis and is referred to be under the torsion.

MACHANICS OF SOLID3This report mainly puts emphasis on the cases which are related to the torsion whichis between two specimens which is circular and is of different types of material, specificallythe material being brass and steel which are analysed. It furthermost describes what is theeffect on the sample specimen when torque is applied to it, in this particular case it iscircular bar. The main aim is to conduct a basic evaluation which is mainly done in order toreject or support the formulations of the initial theoretical. This experiment mainly examines the components which can be termed asfundamental for the testing and the significance of the torsional term such as torque, angleof rotation and the torsion rapture of the modulus which is mainly highlighted. Theseparameters would be mainly being derived from the torsional load which is related to thesteel and the brass rod which is circular in shape.Description 2.1The experiment of the torsion relating to the circular section is shown in figure 1. Itmainly consists of a backboard which contains the chunks which is to be used for thepurpose of gripping the specimen which is to be tested from both the ends. The connectionof the load cell with the use of the arm to the measure the torque is connected to the righthand chunk. A protractor scale which is on the left hand chunk mainly measures therotation. The twisting of the specimen is done using a thumbwheel. The alteration of the test
