INTRODUCTION
Personal development refers to the process which assists an individual in increasing
capabilities, potential as well as competencies in order to ensure future success and growth for
getting better employment opportunities. It is a continuous process which embarks higher
learning and development in terms of personal as well as professional manner. In present time, it
is important for a person to be conscious about enhancing different skills and knowledge for
improving overall personality and get better opportunity (Tattum and Tattum, 2017). It is
analyzed that there are various academic skills which need to develop by an individual in terms
of getting growth and success in future period of time. Personal development skills also help in
enhancing level of confidence within an individual in current competitive environment. For this
purpose, it is imperative to prepare a lot of goals which provide scope in terms of analyzing
performance in an efficient manner. The present report is based on personal development of an
individual. Along with this, significance of having goals such as short term, medium and long
term has been also discussed in the following report. Further, personal development plan for
enhancing personal and professional capabilities of a person is also included within the following
assignment.
TASK 1
Concept of personal and professional development
Personal development is a process which enables an individual to assess own goals and
upskill current potential in order to attain predefined objectives. It allows to monitor own
potential and then make necessary improvements for future growth and success. Personal
development is not related with a particular period of time rather it is a continuous process under
which a person needs to make consistent efforts for learning and development (Woolnough and
Fielden, 2017). In current competitive world, it is vital to get involved in personal development
in order to get necessary skills, potential to get success in career. There are a lot of skills such as
leadership, communication, time management and more which need to develop in terms of
getting better employment. Personal development is regarded as the process of enhancing current
level of potential and mind set of individuals with an aim to bring quality in life. It helps in

enhancement of competencies and development of new skills for attaining future goals within
stipulated period of time.
Professional development is important for developing meaningful skills which are
helpful in order to achieve set goals and objectives at work place within stipulated period of
time. It helps in development of such skills which bring business acumen in individuals and
enable them to perform assigned task in best possible manner. It is related with the enhancement
of various skills that are required to make a profound career in corporate world. Professional
development brings a lot of opportunity for a person to put a better impression on peers and
managers by performing assigned task in an efficient manner. For this purpose, organizations
take necessary steps for development of their employees so that they can bring value at work
place(Duboust and Knight, 2018).
Values of short term goals with three examples
Goals are important as they provide direction in order to alien efforts in significant
manner. Without goals, it is not possible to get success in life. For this purpose, there are
different types of goals are formulated by individual for different time period. Short term goals
are such goals which are prepared for near future. These goals can be prepare for a day, week or
month. It is related to a short duration thus play a crucial role in keeping an individual motivated
and inspired for achieving set goals significantly.
It is stated that short term goals provide direction to individual to put efforts for attaining
desired results. It also helps in terms of boosting level of confidence level of individuals in
significant manner. Short term wins play a crucial role in motivating and inspiring a person so
that they work with full potential and enthusiasm for getting better outcomes. Short term goals
works to fill the gap between actual situation and desired goals for attaining predefined results
within stipulated period of time (Prestoz and Fraser-Thomas, 2018).
Examples
To develop time management skills for managing each and every task in an effective
manner.
To develop communication skills in order to communicate with other in an impressive
way.
