INTRODUCTION
Personal development is considered as the lifelong process as it a way in which people
access their knowledge, skills and qualities while consider their goals in life and set aims so that
they can enhance their potential. There are three aspects of this which includes the spiritual,
physical and mental. It is important to have continuous personal development so that it can make
the individual capable of its potential. (Williams and Raney, 2020). This report shall cover the
professional and personal development, short, long and medium term goals with its value and
personal development plan.
MAIN BODY
Concept of personal and professional development
It is defined as the process with the help of which the individual and organization can get
engage in the learning process in order to meet its challenges and the desired aims/ this
development is associated with the needs of development of individual as well as group. The
main aim of it is to help the people to manage their growth and learning in their whole career. It
is essential that they continue to develop and learn new knowledge and skills and ensure they
work legally, safely and effectively. It not only bring benefit in the professional career but also
helps in personal life as it is aimed to inculcate such knowledge which can bring new career
opportunities for the professional development and contribute in leading healthy lifestyle. It is a
continuous process which is never ending as it consists of the activities which can develop
personal potential and capabilities throughout the life (Bond and Blevins, 2020).
Description and value of short term goals together with examples.
Goals are basically the targets which an individual wants to achieve. The short term goals
are something which a person needs to achieve in near future which may be today, present month
or year. It is something which is to be accomplished in short span of time. The short term goals
help in achieving the professional aspirations and make an individual more productive together
with improving its job satisfaction as a whole. In order to achieve it, it is important to initially set
the short term goals and get committed to achieve it. These may be set to become more

productive in short period of time and the goal of establishing any short term aspirations are
aimed to further the support and success of the long term goals. The more actionable and specific
the goal list is, the more it is likelihood to achieve the goals on timely basis (Markova and et. al.,
2019). These are achieved in less than 1 year time period. The value of short term goals are
illustrated below-
Boosts the motivation- Setting short period of time goals is easier than going on to set the
long term aspiration as it allows in realizing the results in a quick manner. These small
achievements can help in motivating a person to continue with its goals and also allows
building the momentum in order to keep moving forward.
Mitigates the procrastination- When a clear goal is set together with its actionable steps
to achieve it, procrastination is cut down often and an individual is motivated to work
continuously even when it is tough to move ahead.
Provides clear direction- The list of short term goal which is completed with the actions
helps in giving clear direction so that the person can focus on its efforts. This helps in
preventing the wastage of time on the activities which are not connected with the goals
and reduces the wastage of energy and time.
Promotes career success- If a person regularly sets and accomplishes the goals, it is the
key to move forward in professional life. Without the aspirations, an individual can get
distracted and spends more of the time in not making any progress. So setting short term
goals help in keeping eye on the prize and encourage to not lose any sight of long term
goals for career (Sergeeva, 2019).

Developing communication skills.
Develop decision making skills.
Inculcating teamwork skills.

These goals take a bit longer time to achieve. It is something which is to be achieved
somewhere in between the short and long term goal of a person. Since long term goals takes bit
longer time period to achieve it, the medium term aspirations helps in staying motivated as the
