INTRODUCTION
Kemko manufacturing was established fifty years back and the company
deals in manufacturing of good quality appliances that find their usage in the
household chores. In the year 1990 the growth of Kemko had been the
maximum and since then the firm is growing by acquiring other firms. The
company grew rapidly and opened almost more than twenty five plants
across the countries Asia, the United States and Asia. The manufacturing
plants had their individual culture and maximum of the times the corporate
office granted them the permission to be autonomous. Each of the plants
used their own way to handle the procurement of raw material and control
on the inventory. There was a provision that if purchase requests crossed the
value of certain dollar it needed the approval of the main branch. The
problem was that at the corporate level the things got complicated and
confusing as every different branch had its own way of documenting in the
procurement process. This could create a huge problem in cash flow
resulting in loss of control of the corporate on the plant. This made the firm
to think about establishing standardized procurement and inventory control
system for all the plants.
REQUIREMENTS MANAGEMENT APPROACH
Requirement management approach is the process involved in collecting,
refining, prioritizing and analyzing the requirements of the products and
making a plan for the delivery of the same. The main purpose of this is
ensuring that the firm successfully meets the demands of the stakeholders.
In this case study of Kemko Manufacturing, the senior personnel in the
management asked their IT Director to head the project of implementing the
inventory and standardized procurement process. Janet Adams, the Director
of Information Technology immediately got into action and selected the
members she wanted from the IT team and she called a meeting. It was
necessary that each of the plants of the company send a representative to
the meeting. The meeting was conducted and it was made clear that the
scopes of the project should be defined and specific. Scope creep was the
only fear that the Director talked about and all the members were advised to
check on it.
Requirements Identification: The Kemko Manufacturing project team was
given strict instructions to develop a list of project specific requirements and
these requirements should be appropriate and no such big changes would be
entertained in between the process. In order to identify the project
requirements collection of the same played a vital role. The collection
process included interviews, organizing workshops, surveys and group
creativity techniques. These were conducted among the stakeholders of the
project that included the staffs in all the plants, the management in the
