About Dubai International Airport
The Dubai International Airport is the primary international airport that serves the
United Arab Emirates and also considered to be the busiest airport in terms of the international
traffic of the passengers. It is also considered to be the sixth busiest cargo airport in the world.
It has 777 boeing movements and the airport having the highest number of passengers per flight.
In the year 2017, it had 88 million passengers and 2.65 million tonnes of cargo and registered
409, 493 aircraft movements. The Dubai international airport is located in the AI Garhoud
district. The terminal 3 is the considered to be the second-largest building in the world in terms
of floor space and largest airport terminal in the world. The Dubai Airports Company operates
the airport and is the home baser of the International airlines of Dubai. This is an important
contributor in the economy of Dubai because it employs 90,000 people approximately and
support the 400,000 jobs indirectly. It contributes more than US$ 26.7 billion in the economy
that represents around 27 % of the GDP of Dubai. In the year 1937, the civil aviation of Dubai
began after signing anair agreement.
Airport ownership and governance
The Dubai International Airport has been the winner of the Best Airport in Middle East
Award consecutively for four years. As per the report of July 2011, in the first 11 months of the
year, the traffic was 46. 28 million which is a 7.8 % growth from the year 2010. The Dubai
Airports Company is an airport authority which owns and manages the Dubai airports. The
airports include the Dubai International Airport and the AI Maktoum International Airport.
However the owner of the Dubai International Airport is the government of Dubai. The Dubai
Airports company was established in the year 2007 as a commercial entity having followed the
organizational restructuring of the Dubai Department of Civil Aviation ( DCA ).
