1. THE CRITICAL ISSUES OF THE PRESENT DAY WORLD
POLITICS
The most critical issue in the context of the world politics today according to me is the
rise of populism in most of the nations. The prevalence of human rights still exist to protect
the populations from the different threats like that of the abuse from the government and the
neglect by the nation’s administration. In the recent political era there is a rise of the new
generation of the populists that is turning the protection level on the head of the state. The
general approach of the populists has risen along with the rising levels of public discontent
levels over the question of status quo present in the different nations 1(Jackson 2016).The
dreadful incidents of global terrorism and the drastic changes in the global technological
knowhow that shows the rising level of inequality highlights a level of political crisis across
the various nations.
The rise of global populism was initially observed in the Latin American nations in
the beginning of 1990s along with the new form of communist democracies of the countries
prevalent in the year 2000s. Most of the countries that includes UK, Netherlands, Hungary
and Poland have seen the surging waves of global populism in the last few years, which
became more prominent with the election of the US president Donald Trump in US as one of
the striking gains for global populism.
The most dangerous effects of populism includes the degradation of the formal
democratic principles and the ethics associated with the liberal institutions. The destructive
effects of the populist rule also includes the takeover and the courts that will oversee the

democratic form of institutions along with the new laws that will limit the freedom granted to
the civil societies and the media of a particular nation 2(Kerr 2017). Populism is also
associated with the conflict that is evident in the different form of interest laws, in fading
away the degree of the financial transparency.
The second problem that poses a threat to the political stability of the world is the
global refugee or the global solidarity crisis. The refugee crisis is associated with the
increasing levels of violence, feeling of insecurity among the masses and the shortage of the
basic amenities for the population like food, medicine and the basic food requirement3
(Brown, Seyom 2018). Examples of the global solidarity crisis is evident in the case of the
Rohingya issue of Myanmar or the crisis in the Palestine Israel conflict. In this situation, the
wealthier nations still continue to prioritize the different policies that can delay the people in
seeking the asylum at an appropriate time. The Amnesty International reports that at present
the global refugees are 25.9 million refugees across the world 4(Rixen et.al 2016).
Several initiatives that should be taken up for solving this problem are the bilateral
dialogue that should be initiated between the source and the destination countries of the
refugees. The peacekeepers of UN are responsible for the protection of the refugee camps.
