1. TITLE OF THE RESEARCH PROJECT“What is the effectiveness of tamoxifen in preventing the reoccurrence of cancer in women witha history of breast cancer?”2. BACKGROUND OF THE RESEARCH PICO framework P stand for population and for the present study, selected population is women who havethe history of breast cancer. Thus, focus has been laid on such women who have thechances of reoccurrence of breast cancer. Age group selected is between 30-50 years.This age group has been selected because the case is talking about Mrs Jones who is 45year old woman and who is previously treated for breast cancer. However, due to the sideeffects of Tamoxifen, she stopped taking it after 1 year. I stands for intervention and in the subsequent study, intervention is Tamoxifen which ischiefly used for the purpose of minimizing the chances of recurrence of breast cancer inwomen. Such intervention has been selected because Tamoxifen is useful in treatingbreast cancer which usually spreads in the body as metastatic breast cancer. C stands for comparison which is not available in the present study.O stands for outcome and the present study is expected to find out the impact ofTamoxifen in minimizing the recurrence of breast cancer in women who have history ofthe same health problem. Expected outcome for the study is to identify how Tamoxifencan reduce the recurrence of breast cancer in women. From previous researches, it isidentified that Tamoxifen is commonly utilized for the purpose of preventing breastcancer from coming back in women (especially among those who have history of thesame). Research question Research question has been developed in the present work for the purpose of focusing ondifferent sources of data and this can also aid in specifying the validity and reliability of researchprocedure. Research question for the present study is stated as under:What is the effectiveness of tamoxifen in preventing the reoccurrence of cancer inwomen with a history of breast cancer?3

3. Significance of the issue Statistics of breast cancer in Australia Breast cancer is the most common disease which was diagnosed in Australia in the year2013. Total 142 males and 15,902 females cases have been diagnosed and it is estimated toincrease the counting in 2017 (Breast cancer in Australia, 2017). It is expected to have anincrease of 13.2% in the 2017. Number of deaths from breast cancer is expected to of 6.5% in thesame year.Risk of recurrence of cancer in patients with history of breast cancer. Use of tamoxifen reduces the possibilities of on cells generating back within the body.The chances of recurrence of breast cancer also lowers. According to the study, it has been foundthat tamoxifen are pills which is consumed daily for 5-10 years and thereby, recurrence chancesalso reduces up to 10 years (Lawson and et.al., 2015). But its continuous use has adverse effectson health that may include endometrial cancer, effects on fertility, etc.How tamoxifen helps breast cancer patients? Tamoxifen is prescribed by doctors for treatment of breast cancer after conductingsurgery. Cells that causes breast cancer are sensitive to estrogen. By growing continuously inbody and spreading all across, they spread disease in the whole body (Nagata and et.al., 2014).Tamoxifen helps in stopping estrogen from getting attached to such cells and prevents furthergrowth.Therefore, in this respect the present research study has been describing the useful ofTamoxifen in preventing the recurrence of breast cancer in women.
